I am curious about how older people purchasing houses on pilings (with staircases to enter the homes) manage the stairs? Are there elevators of different kinds in these houses, or do you recommend that no one with concerns about climbing stairs should live in those houses?

Yes there are elevators and cargo lifts installed to insure people of all ages can enjoy living on the coast.

You never mentioned the unbelievable drug activity and homeless beggars on the island. With law enforcement background in the South Bronx in the 80s, I have never seen the level of drug use and drug related crime (robberies, burglaries…..) as I have witnessed on the island. It is disgusting. However, the drugs and prostitution will never subside with the current law enforcement there. Most of that crime is controlled by the motorcycle gang (club), The Banditos/Amigos/Salty Dogs and most local law enforcement is related to a member of those groups. Without an outside agency having a task force to remove ALL those involved, it will just get worse. You never mentioned one of the largest issues-the bacteria content of the beaches, which is not really made public for obvious reasons. Neither are the DWIs or shark attacks. I personally love the island itself. But, if you are going to try to inform folks…..be honest. At least it isn’t Houston.

I love this, Galveston County resident here. Don't worry about the jerks in the comments. I love seeing the area I live from multiple perspectives. No area is perfect, especially beach towns with 3 MAJOR ports around it. There are more good people here by a lot, that's what makes this "home."

I've lived close to Pearland my whole life & I hate what it's become. It had the chance to develop into a thriving socialite town like you see on TV but it became a sprawling, traffic clogged wasteland. Crime rates are only low because everyone is old & fat & the whole city is unwalkable. Too much single-family zoning has ruined the city's future. The city is so unwalkable, even if you live in an apartment on the same street as a business you have to drive there. Huge lack of sidewalks, every suburb is walled off, nothing is connected. This has made the city miserable for drivers too.

Hey neighbor. You are spot-on in your description with both pro's and con's about BV. My wife and were fortunate enough to buy a place on Tarpon about 3 years ago. We're only a short walk to all the restaurants and stores. I currently live out of state, so my own visits are limited to about 2 to 3 weeks a year. (My wife can "work from home" so she's there a couple of months out of the year.) I'm retiring soon so I can finally enjoy BV. From what I've experienced... BV IS a little slice of paradise. BTW: Great channel.
