love this, i hope you scale it up, make a gimbal version that tracks ufos, and sell it to ufo huntr ghost hunter people, lots of peopel would love a "UFO security Camera" for drones, that watches over their house for ufos or just illegal drones etc hah many people would love it, because it would give them peace of mind about alien abductions if they have kids, make it affordable, and why not track teh sky over your home? need to sellit as a nights ky security camera and drone camera to watch for both

I think what you said towards the end is spot on. Its possible that a meteor hit the atmosphere very shallow lost some of its material on the first impact then bounced away from the Earth momentarily before the gravitational pull brought it back into the atmosphere where it finally burnt up. This could explain the delay of minutes. Having said that, I would expect the object to also deflect with the impact and change direction, although this is not always true, as meteor are small rocks and dust that are slow moving stationary (to some degree) and Earth passes through their space pushing them away or dragging them into our atmosphere. Of course it could also be a trick of the light and the first object burnt up before a second object on a similar path came into view making you think it the same object. Meteors - as we know - usually never come alone.

@@witsend236 I’m in the process of making a follow up video for this. I drew a line following the trajectory of the initial object, and then fit a circle to to the ‘2nd’ falling object. The trajectory of the first and path of the 2nd align exactly together. From what I found, for it to be two separate objects entirely would be a remarkable coincidence compared to it just being a single object reappearing. I think the simpler explanation is that it is actually the same object, so that is pretty cool!

@normanrevere 19 күн бұрын
I personally doubt its an aircraft. I considered that, but I do see many planes and helicopters on my stream, and none have ever looked similar to that. They usually move a lot more per frame. Also, if it was an aircraft and we are seeing navigation lights, why wouldn't it have been visible prior to the meteorite? It seems a little odd that it would show up just a minute or so afterwards.

Wouldn't it be possible to use one of those one way reflective films on the dome to combat heat (you would need a strong exposure for this tbh). Also wrapping the whole thing in a reflective material could help with sun related heat issues in general, but it would also probably make it more hot during the winter (like those heat blankets paramedics use)

Thanks for sharing this video. I’ve wanted to build my own All Sky camera like this for a while. Lots of good tips and ideas, at least to me; in your video. It looks like you kept most of the core components from your original build. If you were buying any/all of the core components today for a fresh build from scratch, is there anything significant that you would buy differently for any reason other than budget?
@normanrevere
@normanrevere 20 күн бұрын
Thank you! Honestly, not really. I did a good bit of research prior to the first build, and I was able to use some parts that I had laying around. I kind of just winged it for the construction part for the first one. If anything I'd get some nichrome wire / pipe heating wire as a small spool rather than cannibalize a spare dew heater strap, though that has also worked great for me this whole time. I also should have bought a powered USB hub from the start of the first build. The small screened vents and better fan + heatsinks were a nice change too.

I have made outdoor camera enclosures for above and under water for like 30 years. One thing that will go wrong in your current design is, that humidity will build up in a vented enclosure, then dust will accumulate and start to stick and short out while humidity gets trapped in it. The way I normally approach this by having internal and external fans, with a heat sink or better heat pipe assembly, like you get for a PC processor cooler. This way you enclosure - is sealed, with some desiccant you keep it dry and prevent it from fogging up.
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 15 күн бұрын
This is the way I have mine set up. I use an internal CPU heatsink attached to an external one and its sealed air tight. I purged the housing with dry nitrogen gas and placed desiccant inside. Its been through a full summer and partial winter with no issues. For the dew heater I just use 2 polyimide strips stuck to the top of the plastic lid which is under the dome (not inside it.) I thinks it only like 3.5 watts in series. Its controlled by an allsky software module which uses weather data every 5 minutes. I have never had dew issues. And it still melts the snow off, although rather slowly when its in the single digits F. Ive never like the idea of outside air contacting electronics. I have seen what it does to electronics in my line of work. Things quickly oxidize and can short circuit components.

Like your build. Could you give me a few more details on the dew heater you built? Thanks for sharing.
@normanrevere
@normanrevere 24 күн бұрын
@@allenkonig8759 Thank you! The dew heater was built by cannibalizing a USB dew heater meant for camera lenses. I had it on hand so I used that, otherwise you could get some pipe heating wire or nichrome wire. Just something that gets warm basically. Then I put it in a 3D printed ring so I could attach it to the dome easier, but all you need is good contact with the dome so the heat can transfer through. Mine is always on but you could probably rig it up to only come on at night if you wanted.

Isn't the moisture getting into rhe enclosure a problem?
@normanrevere
@normanrevere 24 күн бұрын
Honestly, in my experience not really. I actually had a leak I didn't know about in the previous enclosure (silicone between the dome and enclosure was cracked in one spot) and there was a solid centimeter of water in there after a heavy storm. The only reason I noticed it was because of dew forming on the inside of the dome. None of the electronics or connections were submerged though. Obviously that wasn't ideal, but it turned out fine. Otherwise I'm not concerned with a little bit of moisture getting in there, I haven't had any problems with that over the ~16 months I've been running it!
@zeendaniels5809
@zeendaniels5809 23 күн бұрын
@normanrevere Good to know! Because raspberries are not easy nor cheap to come by nowadays. I'm thinking of a similar setup, but using an OrangePi Zero 3, and adding air-to-air heat exchange to deal with the overheating without directly pulling air into the enclosure...
@normanrevere
@normanrevere 20 күн бұрын
@@zeendaniels5809 Sorry for the late reply. If you are putting your Pi inside the enclosure, I would be much more careful with your ventilation and keeping moisture out, or completely sealing it and doing what you said with a heat exchanger. The only electronics inside of my enclosure are the USB hub and the camera. My mini-pc is inside my house connected via a 30ft powered USB cord.

Couple thoughts: 1) could you mount everything but the camera lense on the side of the house instead? 2) if you use a heat gun, it won't burn the plastic like a flame does. I've wanted to do something like this for a long time. I just suck at putting my mind to things.
@normanrevere
@normanrevere 25 күн бұрын
You could, but that might also block out a large portion of the sky. I also wanted to be able to access it easily so the top of the roof near my balcony seemed like my best option. The torch was stupid. I just used it because I had it close by when I realized the problem. The funny thing was I didn't even need those pieces anyway, those vents have been doing a great job at keeping the weather out so far. I had the original version of the cam put together some time in August of '23, but I didn't actually start using it to record constantly until November. Prior to that I was just streaming and working out some of the kinks. Prior to that i've had a desire to build something like this for years. I just never had a good place to set one up.
@grabasandwich

@normanrevere thanks for the reply. I meant keep the lense on the roof, but have the brains out of sun, rain, etc. I wonder what the maximum length the wires can be for the chip/lense? Same for dashcams. I'm assuming Tesla's have "remote" camera/lense/CCDs at each location instead of an entire board? I hope that makes sense.
