Please read about the Opossums special need for Calcium. When you feed a wild animal domestic food they gorge themselves on it and for the Opossum that means it is gorged on improperly balanced nutrition and won't eat for an extended period of time all the while being Calcium deprived. Metabolic Bone Disease MBD will cripple the Opossum and render it's life over. Please be careful of what you feed wild Opossum. There is commercially prepared nutritionally balanced dry food available. It's inexpensive at pet stores. Chewy will deliver it to your door. If you want to do right read about it.

Ugghhh no, friendly is the possum that I petted one night in a thunderstorm. It was a very muddy and wet juvenile rooting around in the mud at my feet. It didn't seem afraid, so against my better nature I petted it because I felt sorry for it, and immediately it rubbed up against my leg just like a cat (getting my pants all muddy, but it was so cute)!

A few years ago a mother skunk and her little baby skunk would come into my deck and eat food from the cat dish. She would allow me to pet her and take the baby inside for combing. She never sprayed me and neither did the baby which can also spray.

I think dog food and cat food are fine for opossums as long as they are grain free versions. Opossums do not need carbs in their diet, especially not grains.

That one was very young for its size. All that varied coloring should mean it was young or under stressed.

He's actually a little nervous but possums hate fighting and they'll totally put up with you. Even when they open their mouths trying to be threatening you can literally stick your finger in there and they won't bite (usually)

He doesn't care at all. So cute and fluffy thing! He even doesn't know that he is on youtube! :)

They are very beneficial to the environment. They dont get rabies because their body temperature is not high enough. Also they are the biggest eaters of Ticks.

Opossums are so underrated they’re pretty friendly clean and immune to rabies

I actually had a pet opossum for close to 7 years before he died. It sucks that 5 or 6 years is typically all they get even in captivity. Mine lived to be exceptionally old. I found him as a baby. They need a high calcium diet to prevent metabolic bone disease. Mine was like a big fuzzy baby. I really loved him. He would curl up on my lap to sleep.

They don't carry rabies but they got some real bad teeth but I guess the no rabies makes them more approachable
