good video. By now we shouldn't be talking about "Aikido wrist locks" or Judo throws" just what the technique (or underlying principle is) and how and when it might be used appropriately. Defining the effectiveness of a biomechanical process merely by the art its mainly associated with shows a complete lack of understanding but is common when you see broad critiques of the various arts.

Self defense aside, I would add that even partially successful wrist locks tend to have a deterrent effect. Once you get one you’ll find that your opponents grip fighting gets a lot more tentative.

If understood correctly and willing to deviate outside what would be considered the rules of the combat sports and more importantly understand how those rules change the dynamics considerably, Combat sports, whatever the type has merit in the concrete arena. Introduce the sudden yanking of fingers, thumbs and toes to one side so it stays limp and ground fighters might be a bit more hesitant to go to the ground. A head butt might get you disqualified if trying to apply a tenkai kote kineri in Shodokan/Tomiki tanto shiai but it may help the kuzushi somewhat.

Aikido uses wrist locks to obtain the control over the shoulder structure, in case when direct ikkyo is not possible or has failed for some reason. That is an intermediate step that should be normally avoided.

My thoughts on why you don’t see it in sports martial arts, its because there is no intention to do it, the focus is on gross motor movements and being reactive to opportunity. That opportunity is rare and because of that specific training to pull it off is at a cost of opportunity on the training you could have done on a skill you need a lot, like a sprawl or double leg. So unless you have a TMA background like Aikido its unlikely you will see it and if its just training you might be concerned in not breaking your training partner as they may not react in a way that prevents injury due to unfamiliarity.

It looks like he was more tired than it being a worthwhile throw , though he did have underhooks so maybe better than I think
@martialgeeks4 күн бұрын
He was gassed, plus took a knee to the body, so that deff made it super easy to do, though that being a good tactic, if you make your opponent gass out and hurt them bas a takedown like this is a good option, low risk high reward
@tcwentertainment4 күн бұрын
@@martialgeeks oh yea underhooks allo for some nice knees definitely to hit clean. My argument was moreso if stamina/body damage wasn't a issue (which in streetebefs it usually is) it likely wouldn't have worked exactly as he'd done that one. But if they weren't he might also have had more mind for deeper hooks and would pull a reap to still get the guy to the ground matering how much of a grappling/wrestling base the guy has. The main advantage of sport is the continued full speed application. This is the advantage of wrestling in the United States, for instance where kids compete from youth all the way through middle school and high school. All of that full speed training adds up to a very effective platform Boxing is another example, however, Wrestling still has an advantage because it is every day after school during the season. Boxing is still when you want to go and then who else is there with

Intresting and good points, if aikido is trained for combat sports some of it is useful. Personally I found alot of difference in effective approach between old aikido and ki aikido. My favourite being aiki jutsu , the guys used to complete in justu and judo comps . But like most schools then more focus on throws and locks with majority basic submissions chokes and arm locks not many leg locks but the reason for that is before we could get knee surgery, breaking a leg training was considered very bad practice and unnecessary as students would be crippled for life, more focus was put on " the gentle art " side of the samurai arts and so we have the most recent Japanese martial art aikido is also traditionally more spiritual

So i agree with what is said, except one point, free sparing is the closest representation of a fight, no drill will give a better representation. But the really question is why do we need to fight in a class when we are there to learn? Hard sparing only teaches a couple things and At different levels of skill people get different things out of hard sparing. Beginner, only learns how to fight though pain, how to handle fear and discomfort and how to continue throwing shots while getting hit. Intermediate, learns to adjust on the fly, timing and range against an actively resisting opposition. Advance, i dont think advanced fighters learn anything through sparing, all they do is get better at excuting while under fire. Couple massive issues i see at most gyms is that they spare/roll etc with the same people all the time because of low numbers and all that happens is they get better at fighting those specific people and ive seen this hurt them come fight night or at competitions. If you only have a small group to train with i would recommend only hard sparing once a month, and you do drilling and posistional sparing instead, this allows a long enough time to pass for there to be development of new skills and for the people to not get specificly conditioned to fighting specific people. If people want to do more hard sparing than once a month i recommend traveling to other gyms each week to get experience fightong completely different people. To many people enjoy the fight to much and spar with outbconsidering what it is we are trying to develop.
@martialgeeks4 күн бұрын
Well said, I don't see where we disagree though, I think the point was about importance of situational sparring combined with free sparring, for example; for a while early in my journey I used to train by only free sparring and had to correct some significant bad habits, so what jamie was saying is only about that particular angle, anyways check out the full conversation ✌

Mizner travels the world and has plenty of instructors in most regions of the US and Europe by now, if you wanted to do more than just run your mouth you could find one of them and put your own claims to the test. But I can assure you, based on the nonsense you showed of your own training, any of his senior instructors would absolutely smoke you. In the meantime Mizner has posted videos of him demonstrating on some of the most decorated UFC and MMA fighters in history. Do you think they were just pretending? Do you think they would risk their reputations on someone who is fake? I think you should take your own advice: go find him or one of his instructors and put up, or shut the fuck up yourself.

To address me would have to include me , pool and snooker is a comparison it might not be the best comparison but demonstrates variables in individual style and approach. I do spar with mma guys and my techniques do stand up as intended yet mma is very specific now and needs specific training. Yes the mma guys do like it and yes good job it will help but there is other skills more suitable. I've taught in mma gyms and respect them and them me , I've taught there students they have taught mine. Again I'm not fairly represented here. Anybody can chose what they want when they want for fighting or not anyway. I've got no problem training with anyone sane , Alan come at it wrong maybe i miss understood , I could say the same for me too . And the gossip and low hits not really on and not completely true either. It was a set up it wasn't mutual alan seemed to be trying the same . If I'm wrong I apologise. But plesse don't mis represent me and my comments or content, thanks.

@martialgeeks , yes my video tai chi vs mma ? I was just trying to answer some questions in layman's terms . The points he made about me ? All of them really and mine about him I feel a complete miss understanding. Prehaps I got the feel of his messages tactics and intent completely wrong. Anyway.. your chat is interesting i get the point and agree but just on snooker or pool chsmps they still specialise to achieve goals, a successful sanda fighter will more likely do that than swap to mma to start again . A boxing champ and a tkd champ train in completely diffrent ways but they are still martial arts. Some people do Thai boxing just for Cardio , some tai chi people do that too . A tai chi push hands champ might just want to do tai chi. People don't have to be fighters. It's too words . Martial and arts . They are equal and opposite, neither is complete without the other. Fighting and not fighting are both martial arts. Not everyone is scared to do mma some people just don't want to , arts all about choice. Or as bruce lee mentioned. Control and instict its a successful combination of both.
