Rick Beato: “74% of PROFESSIONAL songwriters make less than $10,000 dollars a year”. Records are a calling card for a live performer now. They are not money makers of any relevance. Money is made in music now by putting butts in seats as a live performer, Very little money is made by the people who are behind the scenes as a part of creating the record anymore. Technology has killed it. A few years ago someone asked Quincy Jones what he thought of the state of the music business. His answer? “There is no music business”.. This brought to you by a guy who was once on millions and millions of records, who watched NAPSTER and KZbin and Spotify and all of their brothers and sisters come in and render his multi million dollar publishing catalogue relatively worthless, seemingly overnight. Songwriting has to be a PART of a musicians focus now. It is not a career path.

42:12 I think it’s starting to happen to me- my stylistic approach. I see my mind is trying to get really comfortable with chromaticism to a point where I wonder if I have the right environment because sometimes I think I play stuff as original as the greats. This made me laugh because I thought it was just a lick thing but I have been practicing. I recorded a fun at home song with my friend and she’s the piano player I am the sax player … but I played some piano lines and I was shocked to hear it back 5 times and it sounded structurally okay. Practice baby. I love this guy now.

Has anyone else heard that the “friend” of his that was in that vehicle to a gig was actually Dave Williams from Drowning Pool? It adds up in this story. Yeah the official cause of death was Cardiomyopathy but some people claim it was actually a drug overdose, and some even claim it was because of Phil. That’s just what I’ve heard and it’s adding up but who knows.

Wow! I’m just finding this. Wayne Kramer walking back and forth in front of a class of students speaking and strongly resembling a professor. Amazing. What a legend he is and he downplays it, he understands the room that he is in. This is gold.

Very interesting and inspiring. Hard to believe that he was born 1955 even if this was at least 12 years ago. I have enjoyed his playing with Dave Holland and Elvin Jones through the years and appreciate to hear about his background and concept here. I am a drummer by the way.

I was tonight's years old when I found her. I was listening to a documentary about Isaac Stern, and they showed a masterclass with an amazingly talented young violinist. When the credits rolled, I tried to figure out what happened to her.... and 3 hours later, I'm still here listening... She is amazing! Wow!
