Why was this deemed unworthy? This piece of consumable media is truly the pinnacle of success in the multifaceted, efficient, and mentally sharp moviemaking class we’ve seen this year. Every fiber of my overall being is enamored with joy towards each creative decision that has been made towards the production process of this forty-six second piece of Kafkaesque proportions. Let’s break down these beautiful moments together… The scene begins shakily as a seemingly innocent, but intense, stroll through the perimeter of the infamous hallway that serves as the connection point between 5F and 5L. This shot is foreshadowing the greater theme of this jaw-dropping short film. The theme we will come to know as connection. Our leading, unidentified, presumably male protagonist wipes his brow as the hallways life is introduced. A faint conversation is heard symbolizing the points of social connection that the protagonist so pain-staking needs in his quest to find Xavier’s very own “Maltese Falcon” that we come to learn as “The Stapler”. The Protagonist walks past a fellow peer engaging with his laptop This peer alone mind you, representing us (the audience) being alone and disconnected from our surroundings. Connected to our screens as tragedy is about to unfold in the 5L hallway. As the protagonist shambles his way towards the bulletin board located central in the 5L Hallway. Our protagonist is tasked with the Sisyphus inspired project of stapling a missing stapler poster. The presumption being that he can not do so properly due to the stapler that should be in use, is in fact missing. Instead of the project being terminated, we see an unspoken drive unbeknownst to any that could possibly bear witness to the enigmatic actions of our protagonist's quest for connection. Our protagonist mimes the action of stapling the paper to the wall five separate times. Fictionally crucifying the paper in our protagonist's efforts to present connection to the wall, with staples that simply do not exist. Clear religious symbolism aside, this monumental moment is acquainted with Wiz Khalifa’s 2015 hit song “See you Again feat. Charlie Puth”. A song in its own right about the connection of a family. The paper is retroactively subjected to the force of nature known to us innocent viewers as gravity. This paper is representing the falling mental state of our protagonist. Who, now paperless, must march forward with his fruitless quest for connection. The ending shot is a perfect summary for the struggle endured by our protagonist. Color loses meaning as he strides past the shut door of a guidance counselor's office (a place in Xavier synonymous with connection). Our protagonist marches with rigor as the shot fades to black revealing the true perpetrator of this conundrum driving plot… President Jack Raslowsky. A reveal that subverts our expectations revealing the students' disconnection is driven by a higher power. This film paints a philosophical portrait of what man truly is. Is our protagonist connected deeply to his cause beyond his own good? OR Is our protagonist truly detached and lost due to seemingly lack of connection to the world around him? The beauty is, it’s completely unknown. All of this overlooked beauty is shaping up to what we the audience come to know as a struggle we come to face day-to-day. What defines communication and connection. This piece sums up that struggle beautifully as it shows a unique third-person perspective on what lies beneath this young man's mind. Every second of this film is truly art. The build-up, the music, the choreography. All of it is simple and mind-bendingly beautiful as we come to experience it. So I dare ask… unworthy? However, is this worth being deemed “unworthy ''? It's layered with beauty and tattered with symbolism as we experience this young protagonist's quest for connection and fulfillment. Hopefully my simple observations give way to the re-examination of this beauty. Consider this one last amazing detail before this is scoffed as “Andy is looking into this wayyyy too hard” -My Mother. There are no cuts in the entire live action sequence of this film. “Connection” is enveloped in the fabric that weaves this entire film, the cinematography. The lack of the cuts truly acts as a testimony to my overall point at the end of the day. This film is nothing short of art. 5/5 beautiful film. With enjoyment, Andrew Knowles '20

CG, first, thanks for your thoughtful analysis and comments. Second, if you look at the description of this playlist you will see this: "So many films, some just not quite good enough to make the cut. Some of them are very good, but there was just not enough time to include them all in the Festival. Hard choices had to be made. Enjoy the whole list. There are some hidden gems for sure! Mostly good work by Bruno with the rugby team." This film in particular was disqualified for two reasons. 1. It was submitted too late to be included in the Festival. 2. It is a copy of a popular Tik Tock. Although a brilliant copy...a copy nonetheless. Copies of other works are inherently unworthy.

Great Video! Made me burst out laughing many times. The music was a bit loud at parts which made it hard to hear dialogue.

Thanks for watching! Yes, we agree about the music. That note was given to the editor and he changed it, but just not enough. You should have heard it before the "fix". But overall, this is an amazing edit by Joe Tracy.

It was certainly a great year for the class. Ray Park and Matt O'Malley were both prolific producers. This certainly holds up as one of the best Senior Dinner films. 2019 had better films overall. So...not the peak.
