I'm pretty much in the same boat here. Fairly invested in Wahoo ecosystem, other than my GPS. Having to record on my watch and stuff to get the data integrated. Think I'm gonna upgrade.

ALL solid tips. My only comment Lanky is that IF you wish to swap between studded & non-studded tires as the seasons change, tubeless can be a PITA. Other than that, tubeless is the way to go.

Thinking maybe a very light layer of petroleum jelly on the inner oring then maybe wipe the inside bar end with a q-tip so the outer oring will hold it in on rough trails. Just a thought.

You bring up valid arguments to getting out of fat biking. My only counterargument is that fat bikes do not have to be heavy. Many are of course around 32-35 pounds, but you can get them super light. I have a Farley 9.6 that I did some serious upgrading to. It weights 25.5 pounds, even with a dropper post. This bike is fast on xc trails, arguably just as fast as my Ripley on the same trails. It just puts a huge grin on my face every time I ride it. People never pull me aside to talk about my Ripley but I always get questions every other time I ride the Farley. People are always wondering what it is lol.

I was tempted by the Elemnt Ace but I’m a Garmin user and have upgraded from Explore to 530 to 1030 plus and now I own a 1040. I don’t like the price tag for the 1050 considering the battery life. A lot of Wahoo users are unhappy with the new Elemnt Ace and are either going back to Garmin or sticking with their current units.

Do you think this type of cycling makes you a stronger road cyclist or is it totally a different animal?
@TheLankyCyclistАй бұрын
Certainly makes me a better bike handler. As for fitness, it worked for Van Aert and van der Poel. It’s more repeated efforts than the typical 5-10 minute road effort to break away and the sustained effort to stay away. But I don’t race road so hard to say. It certainly won’t hurt.
@cliffcox7643Ай бұрын
@TheLankyCyclist i see. The road crits are repeated efforts over and over... so it may apply.. im 60yo. I should really stop doing this stuff . So dangerous for old men.
@TheLankyCyclistАй бұрын
@ was thinking road racing but yeah crits would probably be similar. We have guys pushing 70 in the series. Probably much safer racing cross than racing crits. 😂

I do agree that the profiles would be a great enhancement for Wahoo. Although I don't do different disciplines, I do ride different bikes, with different equipment (some have power meters, some don't, one has electronic shifting, etc.). Garmin connect sounds like Apple's ecosystem. Once you are in it, you don't want to leave. I get it. I don't need it. Love my Wahoo Roam.

Great to see one way or another that steel bikes are making some what of a come back. Since the mid 70's I've been riding lugged steel bikes and still am today complete with period correct componentry from the era, friction shifting and so on. Believe it or not my go to road bike will be a converted Lugged steel TRACK bike, I had the frame builder of this frameset do the conversion for me, what I was was hoping for is exactly what I got, a super quick responsive bike that down hilled like a bat out of hell and it was a good climber as well, some would have thought it would be a horrible road bike but I've ridden many 100 mile plus rides without any problems what so ever and it performed when I need it to do so, it got me out of a few pickles here and there. BTW: Great looking bike!

Integration of fitness metrics is something that, sadly, from my point of view, will ditch Wahoo. They tried with the Rival and completely failed. I think not having a fitness ecosystem will really make the difference and you can see other companies spending efforts in doing this (Suunto-Sram, Coros). Wahoo somehow abandoned that fitness space and it was a very bad decision despite the fact that their cycling computers are really superior.
