I miss Radio Shack. It was a nerds paradise. I had a lot of Realistic stereo stuff over the years. Kind of looked down upon by pundits. But I was usually happy with the stuff. It was close to home, had things no one else had and the people who ran the business were nice. And who thought Radio Shack would go out of business. Please note that the way this works is not due to the rate that our eyes can detect, but rather a function of the way electricity is delivered. The frequency of the AC line voltage is that 60 hz , not our eyes. The way this works is that the current is delivered in sine waves at that critical 60 Hz. This causes the light by the dots to flash on each time the current goes positive which makes those dots freeze when the on cycle of the light is synchronized with the rotation of the platter. Please note that if you bring these turntables to a country with 50 Hz electrical systems (e g UK) the platter will not be turning at the correct rate when synchronized to the light. Have fun !

@11:24 "...and those are 7 inches." Yes, they are 7 inches. However, 45 RPM records are not exclusive to 7 inch pressings. There are lots of 12 inch pressings that play at 45 RPM. Often, they are long play versions of one or two songs for an entire side of the pressing. As to sound quality for 33 vs 45 RMP speeds, I have never heard any difference, and know no one that has ever heard any difference. My best sounding pressings are 33⅓ RPM. But it is not really due to the rotational speed. Rather, the studio and the pressing plant simply did a better job recording, mixing, mastering, and pressing the records that my ear tells me sound the best. If the studio and pressing plant used the exact same mix, and pressed it at 45 RPM, would it sound better? I wish I knew. Alas, I will never find out. Note that as a record spins faster, the centrifugal force on the stylus increases, affecting its tracking. Also, as the record spins faster, the stylus will have less time to rub where it needs to rub, to absorb (for lack of a better verb) the subtle nuisances pressed into the groove. The stylus might not dig in to the groove as deeply at a faster rotational speed. Sort of like driving over a pot-hole. If you go 100 MPH, your tire will not have time to sink into the hole, and you will feel less of a jolt. At 5 MPH, you will get the full treatment of your tire sinking into that hole. I have no idea how much that affects how much information a stylus can acquire. But at some point, too fast will not allow the stylus to do its job. Too slow will also be a problem. Is that how 33⅓ was chosen? Was 33⅓ deemed to be fast enough for great sound quality? It is, to my ears. I am referring to ideal conditions, because I estimate that 80%+ of all pressings have sub-par sound quality, due to who knows what goes on in the studios and pressing plants. But when they get it right, 33⅓ pressings sound heavenly.
