I am from just outside of Boston Massachusetts we're home prices are extremely high in land use regulations are very high. I have four siblings three of us moved to very low cost of living areas with plenty of housing I'm in a very poor area of northern New York My sister's in Tennessee My brother's in Ohio We all still have jobs and household incomes within the top 5 to 10% in these areas and our housing cost Ie mortgage or rest as % of our income is about 70% less than it would be in MA with the same jobs. The trade-off is You have to move away from your friends and family in the area is not as rich or as pretty. But the difference is where I live I can buy a nice house on 135 acre Farm with barns and plenty of space where I don't have hardly any regulations what it can build on my land for $300,000 and in Massachusetts the very few comparable options would be about 4 million dollars and still be far away from my family. They're actually has been a pretty huge movement of people out of states like California and Massachusett to Florida Tennessee in Texas but what happens is there are quite a few other people like immigrants from India that go to Boston or California and working tech or our doctors and and they make three or $400,000 a year so the rent in San Francisco is perfectly fine for them So if you just look at the net inflow and net outflow of people It doesn't look that large but they're actually has been a huge movement of people that continues and movements within the state itself to cheaper areas. My other brother that stayed living close door we grew up was given my grandmother's house for free and now it's worth about a million dollars and my sister who lives in the very rich town her and her husband both read startups that IPO'd and are worth $100 million bucks or more so they dont care is it cost $12 million to build a house there. My sister's actually been waiting 9 years to get approval to build their dream house on 13 acres they've already spent 3 and 1/2 million on the land and almost a million fighting for approval to build there 😂. Its insanely highly regulated there and enforced by rich NIMBY'S. I don't actually pay any money for rent here in New York I work for my friend who owns a large farm and that's part of my pay I get a house all expenses paid I do own a house on the farm but i rent it out to build equity And I'm planning on building about three or four houses on the farm and selling them over the next five or six years.

Texas is not very good at building homes It's just Houston. Where the price to income ration is infact a outlier conpared to otger large and fast growing US cities.

It's actually only in developed countries where you have a homeless problem because it's so hard to build homes in a number of other reasons. But when I went to very poor areas in Mexico or the Philippines pretty much everyone besides a few orphan kids on the streets has some kind of house of their own because even if they have regulations in those cities no one enforces them and anyone can get some tin and old bamboo and hake a shack And if they have a bit more money they can build themselves a very simple home. In the US this is completely illegal although somehow it is allowed with plastic tarps and tents in some homeless areas.

I dont see any evidence that the US federal government building subsidized housing works at all... The United States government can do many things but we are not like Denmark or Singapore We are big diverse country where people do not like the federal government doing things like this do not trust it and this simply doesn't ever work. If you relax zoning enough market rate housing will be much cheaper than current subsidized housing that doesn't work market rate housing doesn't mean building housing in San Francisco at the current market rate If you actually build enough those prices will come down 10 to 15 times like they did in Tokyo or like they are currently in Houston Texas vrs New York City. If the average house in New York City was $300,000 like it is in Houston the fourth largest city in the country pretty much anyone that wanted to live in the city could afford it at market rate. Again the market rate will change vastly with enough new supply.

God forbid people care about their neighborhood and want a say in the area they helped create. To frame it as old white men just not wanting new people and how these same people need to move out of the way to allow people who don't look like them to have a say in a community they can't afford or have not invested time or money into the community. Poor minorities don't have a right to housing in a neighborhood they can't afford and will have to financially be taken care of by the people who worked and saved to move into the area.

Weird. When I was in Hawaii, 1990 - 1995, the essential workers and the butt of the community jokes were Filipinos and Polynesians islanders like Samoans. Congratulations Filipino and Samoans for making it over the hump. Now Micronesians must carry that banner proudly until the next cohort of migrants. Mexicans?

Your last words were spot-on for me. As a Micronesian, even though times look tough, Hawaii is proof that immigrants can definitely rise up and be bigger than they ever dreamed. I have always believed that! Last year I was asked in my college class once what my legacy would be. At first I was a little nervous to say but I just did it. I said my legacy is that I am part of the wave of Micronesian children that are slowly starting to become the first in their families to hold Masters and PhD's, which is more common than people think. I have a Marshallese friend getting an M.S in the math field, just recently there was a young Chuukese man who graduated Harvard Graduate School, a Chuukese high schooler in 2021 graduated Hilo High & is en route to Columbia University- an Ivy League. I knows lots of Micronesian women who hold nursing degrees now. My cousin is a software engineer and works for Amazon now. I guess my point is that I understand people have their experiences and it's okay. But I hope that your heart will stay open for those that embody the generosity and work ethic that Micronesian culture is all about. In the meantime, we'll be working hard in the background to lift us up.

Bottom line our government made a agreement that must be upheld. They have rights to American medical treatment and all state resorces . They all live in other states . As we learned during pandemic many work for businesses that pay them under the table so reality they will not pay taxes or fund social security and they save the business money . 😢 sad to be exploited .

As a Hawaiian my arms are always open to my fellow Polynesians of the pacific but brahdah you talk as a patriotic American, have you looked at what the colonizing nations did to China, including the white businessman here in Hawaii prior to the illegal overthrow ? Di you know that our beloved Queen took pity on the PAKE understanding the addiction of opium the British initiate on the Chinese and was trying to help them here in Hawaii as the white businessmen were trying to have them ban from Hawaii from our shores . As Kanaka struggles in their own homeland easy for all of you yak about the melting pot , all of you benefit from the wills of our NA Ali’i but the State of Hawaii make sure we the kanaka who 90% of all their wills and trust was to benefit us the kanaka ! We are are not eligible for any social benefits, like education welfare, medical food stamps, or even kupuna care , and the state know that . But rather we apply for your pigeon feed as you drain our Ali’i wills and trust and charge us with fraud 🤬 All of youvwithout Hawaiian blood have a country to go back to , you run China down but was America who goes around the world sticking their nose where it doesn’t belong and spread propaganda about the very countries like China that they have making all their goods ! You may be able in Hawaii to hold office as a senator, governor mayor be you are Chinese , Japanese, Filipino but not in white America . Their constitution is for them not us get it through your head but believe me they like you fight their white man war s

Out of all the polynesians in hawaii i met 1 native hawaiian who accepted me. He spread that aloha, sharing love and i told him i was born in oahu but recieving hate for being a micronesian so i said i might as well be hawaiian because if i told my actual nationality i would get bullied again. He said be proud of who i am, if i accept you so will my family and i said thank you,he taught me what aloha was again. After that i felt better. Like just growing up its samoan vs micronesian. Not much of a childhood to have in kalihi.

If it was Hawaiian there would be no multiple communities, no segregation. There would be one community that's the Hawaiian community regardless of your race etc. A big problem is people want to identify with their heritage rather than their nationality. How about you work on that? Don't consistently call yourself asian, chinese, korean, tongan, japanese, etc how about consistently calling yourselves americans, not Asian-american just american. You dont see white ppl calling themselves european american do we? This I believe will unite and bring people closer to each other. In Hawaii only exception to this rule are hawaiians and those who have privilege and right of maintaining their foreign national identity.

Wouldn't have these issues if united states didn't illegally overthrow Hawai'i. How you going "demand" that people of Hawai'i use/exercise Aloha when their own lands/rights taken away? They getting nothing in return except outrages cost of living, housing, etc. Can't even take care of the Locals while more & more mainlanders bombard the islands and now waves of other Pacific nations. Gotta slow down!

Believe me us can't let micronesia go especially in these days cause they know that if they do...China will make a move and when China takes over it has advantage it will take over micronesian shipping route which most of the countries used nowadays to shipped to Asian Countries and military bases that close to us main land and last but not the least micronesia is made of up 30% of us military personnel..so trust me it's huge loss and a stupid move.
