Eddery had a stinker here. Got bumped back on the turn in, trapped in on the rails, hit the front too soon (albeit he did not he would idle in fairness) but still won and thats what matters. Starkey rose a stinker in the Derby and got into a self caused pocket in the Eclipse 3 out. DB had no luck at times.

DB beat quality , Frankile beat dross. As a 4 yo, I think Frank was the greatest, but as a 3 yo he was only great and definitely gets beaten in the 2000G by DB ,Frankles 2000G is the most overrated performance in racing history.

But time would tell, that lurking in the woods, was the greatest of them all on the HORIZON, in the name of FRANKEL, never in anyones life time would we witness a A total DEVASTATION at NEWMARKET in the 2000 Guineas, FRANKEL, set an incredible pace 15 lengths clear at half way against many group 1 winners, and won in a canter, was mind blowing, then we saw in the Queen Anne, a devastating turn of foot, never to be seen again , then further down the line we had the JUDDEMONT at YORK, the speed was ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL, even the late great owner and breeder K ABDULLAH, said FRANKEL was better than Dancing Brave, I DONT DOUBT HIS WORDS.

Brigadier Gerard was the greatest racehorse over a mile in living memory in my opinion, there have been greater over a mile and a half infact the early seventies was a golden era for great horses Nijinsky and Mill Reef being two of the greatest over the slightly longer distances.

I have watched this race way more times than any other. Its still great.

Great ride from Joe Mercer to get a non stayer ( Brigadier Gerard ) to outstay an out and out stayer ( Parnell ) . Mercer was a great jockey and quite underrated in my opinion . Henry Cecil had the good sense to employ Mercer as his stable jockey after he left Dick Hern' s stable .
