To answer the question fully, we should look at several aspects of the system, including the width of the slot in the grating, the design of the inlets (funnels) and the channel body. There are a number of grating options available with the HICAP Slot Channel system, with different slot widths. The widest slot width is 28mm, but we also provide gratings with 14mm and 6mm slot widths. These narrow slot widths will ensure that large items of debris cannot enter the channel system, therefore helping to reduce cleaning and maintenance. The throat inlets (funnels) between the surface grating and the channel body have inlet dimensions that are much wider than the slot width of the surface grating, so whatever material falls through the surface slot, this will enter the channel body and will not remain within the throat inlet. If any small particles enter the channel body, these will be washed down the channel system during rainfall events or during periodic maintenance of the system (when the system is flushed through with water). The channel system is supplied with access boxes and outlet boxes, which include a sediment bucket which sits within a sump at the bottom of the box. Debris will enter the sediment bucket which can be easily removed (and emptied) during periodic maintenance. RECYFIX HICAP channels have u-shaped channel bases and are manufactured from modified polypropylene (smooth internal surface), so the channel bodies are designed to achieve self-cleansing water flow through the system, which helps to keep the channel system clear of debris.
