I’ve always been a fan of higher spec mainstream cars. I currently drive a 1997 Vauxhall Omega. I wanted a large, comfortable rear drive 6 cylinder saloon that was a bit different to the usual BMW E39’s and such like. I think the Omega stacks up really well against the kind of stuff it was trying to compete against and offers something a bit different. Servicing costs are much cheaper too.
@ontheroadwithalex_officialАй бұрын
The Omega is such an underrated car... 100% get why you went for it. I do love the E39, but sometimes its nice not to follow the crowd
@TheCleanersCupboardАй бұрын
@@ontheroadwithalex_official Exactly, I’ve owned an E39 in the past too and the Omega, although not quite as solid, is still a worthy alternative. It makes you wonder how many people didn’t give great cars like the Omega a second look purely because of the badge. It’s a shame really
@bondjamesbond9041Ай бұрын
I agree completely. Plus the BMW's MBs and Audi's won't be any more reliable and as you said the running costs for your Vauxhall will be a lot lower
@bondjamesbond9041Ай бұрын
@@TheCleanersCupboard completely agree well said
@TheCleanersCupboardАй бұрын
@@bondjamesbond9041 the Vauxhall definitely seems to be a simpler car in comparison to the Germans I’ve had previously. Ok you could argue that it hasn’t got a lot of the electronic trickery that was becoming more mainstream but it has a proven V6, simple 4 speed torque converter autobox, traction control and that’s it. And think I prefer that. It has aircon, power steering and a good stereo. What else do you really need? It’s not as sophisticated as an Audi A6, E39 or W210 but what it does, it does well.

The Peugeot 508 is a stylish and well-rounded midsize sedan that stands out in a competitive segment with its sharp design, advanced technology, and refined driving experience. Peugeot has done an excellent job blending style, comfort, and practicality in this vehicle. Design The 508’s design is one of its strongest features. The exterior is sleek and sporty, with an aggressive front grille, sharp LED headlights, and a coupe-like silhouette thanks to its fastback design. It gives off a premium, almost luxury feel, which sets it apart from more conservative rivals like the VW Passat or Skoda Superb. Inside, the 508 continues to impress with Peugeot's trademark i-Cockpit layout. The small steering wheel and elevated digital instrument cluster create a driver-centric feel, and the cabin materials are generally high

The maintenance on the BMW can bankrupt you if you’re not careful - perhaps even if you are. Great cars to have for the first five years of their lifespan but past 10 years/100,000 miles they’re money pits.

They're all crap. SUV's I mean. The problem is that many of the major manufacturers think that we all want to buy them, when the truth is that there are many of us who never will

Comparing a used car to a new car is not fair in my opinion.
@ontheroadwithalex_official3 ай бұрын
Personally, I think it is fair. It’s up to the buyer to decide how important a new car is to them (and in this case, decide if it outweighs the benefits of choosing the BMW IX)

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think this is very valid process and one I go through with every car choice, especially with the depreciation on the EVs as high as they are. I found this video because it is the exact comparison I was searching for, hence very helpful

Spot on summary Alex 👍🏻 my Ioniq was in for a service about a month ago and my loan car was a Bayon (which I think is basically the same as the i20). I thought it was a bit basic when I first sat in it, but as the miles went on it grew on me. The seats were comfortable, engine and DCT gearbox were ok, wireless CarPlay was great and it was way roomier for 3 adults than I expected! We did about 100 miles in it and I thought the economy would be better tbh. I reset the mpg figure when collecting the car and when I returned it the average was about 47mpg. That was mostly all at 60mph on A and B roads with very little urban use. I did once have a loan Kona with the same engine but the manual gearbox - the manual was definitely more responsive than the DCT, and I don’t recall it being too bad to shift, but the auto was easier to drive. It’s funny you compared it to the Clio as I had a loan one of those earlier this year when our Scenic was in for a service! The interior of the Clio was far nicer than the Hyundai, I drove the Clio over 100 miles too (on a similar route and speeds) and the Clio returned about 55mpg from its 1.0tce. Hard to pick which is best, the i20/Bayon wins hands down on space, equipment and warranty, but the Clio definitely had it beat for Style, interior quality and economy 🙂
@ontheroadwithalex_official4 ай бұрын
They’re both great cars. It really depends on how important your priorities are, but in the majority cases, I think the Clio has the edge on the Hyundai

@ontheroadwithalex_official5 ай бұрын
I think the beaver grill works really well on the M3 and M4. I do agree with you though that it’s good that they haven’t transferred the grill from the M3, as the M5 is always supposed to look the more mature car
