Two types of Contra Checks are used in PP position in Tango, that's my two bits..... The Slow Contra Check, where you can do this amalgamation.... 2 Walks, Progressive Link to PP, Slow Contra Check, Closed Promenade. (SSQQSSSQQS). In this case, the first part of the contra check is the strong CBM turn to L for lead to create a good line, and then back to normal PP for the second part, ending the contra check. Then there is the Quick Contra Check. Often double-timed, making it faster than the Slow Contra Check, and it is often seen in especially championship-level tango competitions. The amalgamation would be.... 2 Walks, Progressive Link to PP, Quick Contra Check, Closed Promenade. (SSQQ and S, (hold 2 beats), SQQS). So in this case, the quick CBM turn and back to PP is very fast, ending with a staccato-like return to normal PP, and for dramatic characterization purposes, held 2 more beats before proceeding to Closed Promenade. Note: In both contra checks, the lead's R foot has weight until the L foot transfers weight at the start of the Closed PP. Also, the "Quick and" means you double-time the timing, meaning you will have two halves of a single quick.

The Checked Reverse Turn and Natural Turn can be treated a little bit like Hesitation Steps. If you cannot complete the full turn because of heavy traffic in a Standard competition heat, use these checks to help you.

I know quite a lot about the "Standing Spin". Whether it is Reverse Standing or Natural Standing - it is a very lovely dancesport figure in the Modern Waltz. Usually the timing is "1 and 2 and 3 and" and you repeat the timing until the spins stop. The Standing Spin was partially inspired by the Pairs' Spin in artistic figure skating, my two bits. The usual follow, especially at competition level/open-style level, for the Standing Spin would either be an oversway line (preferably a Throwaway Oversway), or a Extended hover to PP, and step across from PP. Especially if you do the Natural Standing Spin.

2:23 - the hinge figure after that "overspin figure" - likely this is a combination of an oversway line and a hinge line - so I call that an "Oversway Hinge." My two bits.

A good example of this advanced quickstep stuff was used in the revamp of "Shall We Dance" (a movie in 2004), where in the quickstep heat, Richard Gere and partner start off with the Pendulum preparations, then step-hops to bounce hop actions down the floor, and finishing with "The Rocket" (which I call "The Big Side Hop-And-Slide").

Hi, I seeing step hop with "slow&" and QQ timing. What the difference between these 2 kinds of step hop?
@dancearchivehub2 жыл бұрын
It's a difference in rhythm: you count from 1 to 4 --> 1 2 3 4 with "slow slow" your steps are on: 1 - 3 - you count from 1 to 4 WITH "&"s --> 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & with "slow slow" your steps are on: 1 - - - 3 - - - "quick quick quick quick" : 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - "slow & quick quick": 1 - - & 3 - 4 - "quick quick": 1 - 2 - "slow &": 1 - - & difficult to explain shortly and only via text, hope it helps :)
