Just gonna say, that "frau" should be capitalized as all nouns are capitalized in German. But also this song is really underrated when it comes to the sea shanties of this game, I really like this one!

Depends on what kind of shanty. Short-haul shanties, where it's a call and response while you're working, like Haul Away Joe or Santiana, sure. But there were also songs that were sung in the sailor's off time, which did historically include instruments. The way this song is laid out makes it clear it is the latter. It is a ballad.

Short hauls were for timing primarily. The bosans mate and his chiefs were the ones singing the mains with the crew singing the chorus and answers

I was in the Caymans hunting Templars and just was going around the tavern when I heard “…over the hills and far away…” and I just thought ‘No. It can’t be.’ And I stopped to listen to the rest of the song whilst reliving my days watching Sharpe endlessly, that by the time the song was over, I felt an incredible energy boost and was shouting “Chosen Men!” when I killed the Templars.
