I have several of these lamps that i have rewired and cleaned but left the original finish , and they wont sell , I might just try this on one and see if it goes , did you put any lacquer on after polish to keep it from tarnishing, great job!

(Commenting from my other profile) Thank you! I appreciate real patina as much as the next purist, but I wanted to appreciate the beauty of the brass in its raw form. I didn’t end up coating the metal with lacquer and after 4 years hanging in the dining room, the finish is a little darker but not tarnished at all (yet). I figured I’ll let it patina and decide if it’s worth the effort to re-polish or just enjoy watching it evolve :)

Sometimes preserving hard-earned patina is a better way to go. I would have been really upset if I handed over an antique for repair and "restoration" and it came back to me like that.

I just did one of these chandeliers. Mine has 3 arms and its all steel. Seems the facrory painted it fake brass. I tried to electroplate it but didnt work so i ended up painting it. Looks great.

Incredible restoration! Could you please tell me what the solution was into which you dipped the brass parts?

Thank you! The brass pieces were stripped in just plain water in a crockpot for the smaller pieces and an electric wok for the larger ones. I bought these sacrificial cooking appliances from a thrift store specifically to strip paint, I left them in overnight and that did the trick!

Beautiful house. Refreshing to see someone younger like myself who also appreciates the beauty of them vs the gray hardwood white walled doctor office waiting room houses of today. We have a similar one, albeit without the exposed gumwood. Our first house was a two bedroom with the 1” red oak hardwoods and lots of gumwood, only a bedroom and bathroom needed to be sanded and stained again. We moved to a more established neighborhood and purchase a 1940 with many of the same features - but all of the trim needs to be sanded and stained unfortunately. I’ll never understand the trend of painting original woodwork. I’ve been contemplating doing this with our restored chandeliers vs leaving the patina. Might just try it. Also love your original push buttons. We have been slowly replacing our switches and plates with the reproduction ones from antique house of hardware. Not cheap but totally worth it and they match the original art deco door handle plates perfectly.
