Recently became aware of Survival Arts because they visit the Twin Cities, MN to do training with Indigenous Roots. Sadly missed it, but wow! From all I have heard, read, watched they are so amazing! I feel like their style is also very accessible to anyone no matter their size or even if disabled. Also actually led by people who created this style. And women and gender expansive folks who it is meant for most cause experience more violence. Very powerful. I will tell all my friends about them and hope one day they can train with them. When holding a knife, you should never have your thumb on the blade. They can flick their knife at your thumb too easily. Taught by a Vietnam vet Grand Father green beret.

It seems that all the techniques like checking the hands, slipping, footwork, etc. goes out the window when sparring. It looks like a mad mutual flailing contest

You're holding the bolo like a stick. You're not aware of the leading edge and are not using it properly. A few times you're slapping with the dull end of the bolo. I don't think you know you are doing it. This happens usually because folks only train with sticks only. Your footwork is reluctant and not crisp and not getting away from the weapon. I get it, Mang Leo is old. Something to think about to make your approach better.

Agree...like, if stick fighting is what I came for...why not just fight with sticks? Those finer movements are not used at all when push comes to shove. There seems to be very little of knowledge from all the solo sessions transfered over into the actual fight.
