In the past, I just balled everything up and stored it in totes but, recently you inspired me. Now I make up crazy balls with 2 or 3 strands and use them for scrap happy projects. Ive made blankets, baskets, bags, and cushions for my kitty, Poke.😊

I do make things for my Clementine, but she doesn't really like them. Maybe they are too heavy? 🤷🏽‍♀️ I also make things for my sister's little chihuahua. She uses the things I make for costumes in the photo shoots she does with her pup. 🙃

Good question and answer😊. This isn't a question but why is there the attitude problem with some knitters or yarn shops that get uppity about knit vs. crochet, or wool vs. acrylic? Do the differences matter? I have finally learned some basic knitting this last year, but I don't see it as better than crochet. I have even tried some wool also, and don't see it as superior for all makes. Everything to do with yarn is amazing! Let everyone enjoy what they like. Has anyone else run into this situation? Luckily, it doesn't happen often, for me, but I still don't understand the drama.

I've heard winding yarn into a ball or cake stretches the fibers. I have done,this,for years though. I'm49, almost 50 and started crocheting when I was14. But how true is it that winding yarn stretches the fibers????
@SaraSach

It depends on the fiber of the yarn. But I have done this for over 45 years and never had an issue.

Hi Sarah! Nice video! I wonder if crochet is not just for women would be a myth that could someday be busted. I’d rather doubt it. Anyway, you referred in your video as being lazy to take the item from blocking. I would hardly characterize you as lazy! With your job, and your appointments, and your grandchildren, and your health issues, and your pets, I think you were too busy to take it off the block! May God bless you and thanks for all that you do. And thank hubby for the music.

I belong to a few crochet groups on Facebook and lately all I hear are people saying that they need to block their items. I've been crocheting a long time and I have never blocked anything. I thought that perhaps I should be, so good to know that we don't need to block our crochet projects.

#1 nope! I am 46 and crochet just about anywhere, except the bathroom 😂 I know plenty of young people who crochet! #2 I crochet and loom knit, there is an obvious difference #3 I agree this is a myth. I make plenty of granny stitch blankets and they are warm. #4 not a cheap gift and it is made with much time, a true labor of love #5 I rarely block and if I do I do what you do, stick it to a board and spritz with water.

Some people just aren't crochet worthy. They just aren't appreciative of the money, time and thought you put into a crocheted gift. So I just don't gift them anything, lol.because crochet is what I do! I have label I put into my work and it says -A hug from Mama, Made for you, With love woven in🧶

Sara, do you find that most people do not have the respect for crochet arts as they do for the art of knitting.? I have experienced knitters who downplay and criticize crocheters. Even at yarn, festivals, conventions, etc.. People shun away from crochet, handmade items, or try to bargain them down to nothing, as they think it has no worth. I am so happy that crochet is showing its way in the world, because it is absolutely a beautiful yarn art and deserves all the respect it’s due. Have you had any experiences like this? Just a note, I am a self-taught, crocheter and mirror, and I have been crocheting and knitting for over 60 years. I love my work, however, self taught individuals are not respected by the knitting community. I guess it’s just human nature. Thank you for listening. Just love your show, take care of yourself and the pooches.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤

Who you calling an old lady 😂 My grandma taught me crochet basics when I was around 10-ish As a teen then I learned the rest from the books and magazines, the pictures and lots of trial and error. KZbin videos have kept me updated. Some videos from other countries call crochet knitting so it’s a cultural thing I rarely block my items.

I have made Christmas gifts for the last 2 years Men are a challenge but women easy. **Kitchen: scrubbie, towel holder, dishclothe. **Teens: grand daughters make up scrubbie for face. Washcloth, holder for soap that i buy at the dollar store along with a matching color shampoo and body cleanser and headband to keep hair out of the way. **mittens, hats and scarves for men and grandsons. **extras for women: cowels Ear warmers, elf slippers, pretty slippers etc. small basket with nail file, nail polish and remover, body puff for shower. Well you get the idea so go for it. My daughter said "Mom you always surprise me with such unique and useful things." This year im adding a taco gift box with taco box ill buy, taco towel i saw at dollar store . Sorry this so long but wanted to share in hopes it encourages others to come up with their own ideas as well. Nothing but love, joy and peace to all especially you and your faithfulness to your channel. Christine

I didn't start to crochet until I was 55, when I needed to do something when I had to stop working. I taught myself with utube videos, it's how I found you. I don't gift anything to friends or family except hats because there is no appreciation for time or cost. I just sell a few pieces at a market. I love to see the young utubers videos, it's for all ages. 😊

Good morning Sara... I'm 78 and self taught myself to knit at 13, then 26 years later learned to crochet and I'm still learning. I wake up some mornings crocheting and fall asleep at night crocheting. Sometimes I even crochet in a rocking chair 😂. Thank you again Sara for sharing and teaching all of us. Last night while searching for scarecrow pattern I came across a crochet tutorial and pattern that All Free Crochet had your pattern for a washcloth with a pocket. There was a sweet picture of you, Rosie and Maximo also. ❤

Love the This or That video! #1 - I’m part of the older group - 77, #2 - started when I was 10 or earlier, taught by my Mom. Started with spool knitting. #3 - agree with a previous post, can either be warm or cool depending on the pattern and yarn used, #4 - OMG, yes, no one realizes the time involved with a crocheted gift or any other crafted item. And yes many do not appreciate it, have found that out with many recipients. Very disappointing, when one has created something of their favorite theme - obviously still bugs me! #5 - blocking, well appreciate the benefits and have done it on occasion, it does make items more “crisp”, will do it now more frequently. Not sure where the comment about people not recognizing crochet and call it knitting. I appreciate their interest firstly, do let them know is crochet. But I do find that even some VLOG site say knitting when they may be talking of a crochet pattern. Good gosh - I wrote a novel. LOL. love these videos, thanks Sara!

LOL..#1-. I am 77, sit in a rocker and crochet... I started at about 12. #2- I knit and crochet, #3 both can be warm or cool depending on the pattern and the fiber. #4- a crocheted item cheaply made (poorly) may be considered a cheap gift but an item well made can be a family heirloom. #5- I seldom block anything. Mostly granny squares that need to be the same size. Good questions and good answers! Thank you again!

Hello Sara, I was watching an old episode of CSI:NY last night and someone was murdered with a knitting needle and the lady said she was knitting an afghan for her dog and picked up a crochet granny square blanket to show the cop. Lol! I mostly don't block anything unless I'm crocheting blocks and they look wonky or a project that is a little misshapen. I'm 55 now but have been crocheting for 27 years so I started when I was in my 20's. My son always says he can't believe how warm the blankets are even with the holes. Lol! People have no idea what it cost to crochet an item. I had a commission for a lion blanket that you crochet a head and legs for and then sew them to the edges and it folds to make the lion. I should have gotten half up front because once I told her the price she is no longer interested. Even though I gave her a very good price on it. Similar blankets sell on etsy for $100-$150 and I told her $50.00 and she didn't return my calls or messages. Hope you have a wonderful day! Blessings!
