Hola chicos!

I have an older version of Third Rail plus the new colored vinyl. I might have the CD as well but now it seems the new black vinyl is a must have? Who does Matt Piucci think he is? Ace Frehley?

Huge fan, from Sao Paulo/Brazil. Played this record a lot on my radio shows in the 80's and 90's. Had the opportunity of seeing them twice in 2014, San Francisco. Met mr. Piucci on both occasions and he was very kind - since it was during the World Cup, we ended up talking about "football"; even though we knew nothing about the subject!

Battery Acid was formed in 1993 during the period of time that Mary's Danish were contractually bound to Morgan Creek Records, who refused to give them money for tour support or funds to go into the studio to record. While the band members were having to get day jobs and figure out others way of paying their rent until this contractual limbo was resolved, they each formed side projects as a way of staying musically active. David King and JBJ formed Rob Rule, Julie Ritter started a band called Lux (and later went solo) and Gretchen, Louis and Wag formed Battery Acid. Eventually, when Rob Rule was offered a recording contract by Mercury Records, the only way the band could get out of their Morgan Creek deal was to officially break up, and so that's why that happened. They didn't intend to stay apart forever, but needed to not regroup within a minimum period of time, which was probably like 1 to 2 years of the date of dissolution. Now after they broke up, all of their side projects started receiving a lot of attention, and like Rob Rule before them, Battery Acid was quickly signed up by DGC/Geffen Records, home to alternative powerhouses like Nirvana and Sonic Youth. They worked for quite awhile on their debut album (which was originally going to be titled "My Wish") and were about a month away from it's release when Geffen fired their A&R person, Debra Shalman, and then subsequently dropped all of the bands she had signed. As a last ditch effort to salvage the deal with Geffen, the band went into the studio and recorded "Sunday Dress", a more straight ahead pop song in the vein of old Mary's Danish, but were ultimately dropped anyways as the label started to want the entire album to sound like that and weren't happy with the harder edged music that Battery Acid was intent on making. (This is why "Sunday Dress" appears on the album as an unlisted final track almost as if it was an afterthought.) The band decided to forge on and retooled the album a bit and then released it on their own Absinthe Records in 1996. On a more pleasant note though, I did see Mary's Danish perform two reunion shows in 1997, one at The Viper Room and one at The Whisky (both in West Hollywood) and as part of their reunion set for both shows the band performed Battery Acid's "Sunday Dress", "Bliss" and "Crown on My Head" (as well as Julie Ritter's "Bed" and a new unrecorded Mary's Danish song called "Why Can't You Be Mine?") and the three songs blended in effortlessly with the rest of the MD song selection. As soon as I heard "Sunday Dress" and figured out it was a Battery Acid song, I went out to Tower Records the next day to buy a copy of it.

When he mentioned doing shows talking and playing, I lit up but then figured it wouldn’t happen in my neck of the woods and I got sad again. Earle is the best! Kim Fowley got my husband, Dane Conover signed to MCA/Universal as a solo artist. Not wanting to be pigeonholed as a "singer/songwriter", Dane called his project Trees and the album was called "Sleep Convention". Earle Monkey engineered and co-produced the album in his studio with Dane back in 1982. Dane and Earle worked so well together and among Synth-Pop fans, the "Sleep Convention" album is an 80's gem. Four videos were done and this song "Delta Sleep" was broadcast on MTV in its infancy. You can really hear Earle's engineering and production magic on this song!....kzbin.info/www/bejne/ambadKR5dsqGjbs

I remember buying it when it came out and then seeing them live when they came over here to the UK and being blown away with their live performance. (lost count how many times I've seen them now over the years) I love Eric's book, read it and re read it a few times now. What we need now in 2024/25 is a super deluxe box set of outtakes and alternate versions and Demos for each album, and an officially released live album, and of course a new Bangles album of new material..
