I often become incredibly frustrated with the general public's lack of knowledge of, for lack of a better phrase, "how things work". For example, I would expect a mentally healthy middle aged man to know that a locomotive (a.k.a. "train engine") is a diesel/electric hybrid engine. However most people are completely unaware of this technology altogether. All locomotives have been using diesel/electric hybrid technology since the late 1950s, meaning this technology has been in large-scale use for over six decades! This is very significant because diesel locomotive powered freight trains get INSANE fuel economy using this VERY scalable technology. *By "scalable" I mean that it is equally efficient in small or large scale usage.* A diesel/electric car or truck can EASILY get over 100 miles per gallon, and over the years, quite a few have been built by automotive enthusiasts and individuals... but a diesel/electric vehicle has never been mass produced for the general public, even though they are INSANELY efficient (100 - 200 mpg). It sounds like a lie to most people, but there is no lack of ignorance in our society. Why won't corporations (which exist solely to earn profit) build a diesel/electric automobile for public sale? The answer is easy, but most people lack the cognitive acuity and awareness of the world around them to even know that diesel/electric hybrid propulsion systems have been used in commercial vessels since the 1930! Keeping the population ignorant of the truth ensures that corporations in control of this and other industries remain insanely profitable. The U.S. economy is largely built upon the energy industry, and oil is the "driver". This is why the U.S. Dollar is called the "Petroldollar" (search this term on Wikipedia). If diesel/electric technology was implemented in the automotive industry, the energy industry would see a HUGE loss in profits. To keep this from happening, they employ lobbyists in Washington D.C. to ensure regulations are enacted that keep new technologies from entering the automotive market. Corporations spend tens of millions of dollars (and more) every year "paying off" politicians by "donating" massive amounts of money to the campaign funds of EVERY politician in Washington D.C., and this is a FACT. It's legal bribery, and it has effectively killed the "American Dream". Sadly, most people are completely unaware of this, therefore there is no pushback by the public. The problem in the eyes of greed drunken corporate executives IS that diesel/electric "engines" are INSANELY efficient, which is why certain corporate-controlled industries (I'll let you guess which industry) have literally been doing everything in their power to ensure that commercially available cars and trucks continue to use the direct-drive gasoline and diesel combustion engines. Direct drive combustion engines have been used in automobiles for well over 100 years now, but the fuel economy of modern vehicles is about the same as vehicles built in the 1970s! Greed feeds on ignorance. Ignorance is a byproduct of humanity's increased preoccupation with "making a living", which is becoming exponentially more difficult as time passes. Those in control of our society's "systems" do as much as they possibly can to keep people in a state of ignorance in order to avoid resistance by the people. Their methods are very effective. Americans are indeed very ignorant of things that are actually very important to know. The more time you spend working to "make a living", the less time you have to experience a full and meaningful life that increases awareness of "how the world works" and the ways in which our society is controlled. It's a downward spiraling circle with no clear way out. Unless huge changes are made, this is the system we are stuck in.

I am so sick of hearing about affordable trucks that are not available in the united states or by the time they get here they are double or triple the price. Come out with a low cost pickup truck with maybe a gas and diesel engine option. I loved my vw diesels. They ran forever and got great mpg. I could really use a reliable and economical truck. No one has one ay this point. Toyota could really fill this hole in the truck market. If they can pull it off.
