i have the vevor a3/17" version of this cutter. it has an overly complicated mechanism for adjusting the blade. I wish I had seen your video before buying that vevor version. Tahnk you very much! I bought a 2nd hand one and the blade was badly misaligned and I was able to restore it thanks to your video. I have one problem left though: the last sheets on the bottom don't get cut (at all, so it's not a blade misalignment, it's like if the blade doesn't go all way down as much as it should be). Do you have any suggestion on how to fix this? Thanks again!

This is great! I have just purchased these both for my kids. I have always done the good and the beautiful with them. So transitioning to something that’s a little bit more slow down was very difficult for me! How have you found your kids enjoying first language lessons? I also started my fourth grader on writing rhetoric! So just trying to find things that work for us. It’s very hard with so many different curriculums out there. I’ve been very overwhelmed. ❤
@MommyShareSpace2 ай бұрын
Hi. Yes, it can all be overwhelming sometimes, and I hope that soon you can get to a place where you can take it one day at a time. 💙 The only complaints if I were to have one with FLL would be: 1-For a child that grasps concepts quickly, it will seem repetitive. But even with that, I credit FLL (and lots of reading!) for her understanding of grammar. But for kids that require repetition, it's excellent! 2- It has to be done with a parent/teacher, and the levels 3 and 4 workbooks only have the activities. My eldest child did writing rhetoric for a while and loved it. All the best in your homeschooling journey.

Hello, Do you know if I could just use WD-40 oil on my coil binding machine? I have a Trubind machine, but had no idea that I needed to oil it for maintenance, but it makes sense. Thanks.
@MommyShareSpace2 ай бұрын
Hi. Great question. Wanted to look into it further. Double-checked, and it is not recommended. The formula of wd-40 is not suited for a binding machine. It can cause oil buildup, make the machine cease, and possibly cause malfunction. It is recommended that the oil be formulated for binding machines. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

God bless you "Mommy Share Space" for your videos about this stuff. You are probably the only one. I just bought a used one of those and it looks like new (and that's why I paid about $100 for it and I'm close to regretting it). I was dreaming about this specific cutter and getting to the point where I'm comfortable spending that kind of money because I make (print/bind) my own books and have been watching your videos for years. Other than an obviously used orange plastic bar that the blade falls on and that the safety to lower the lever is modified to make it ineffective and two tiny bumps in the blade, it did make the first cut after applying a lot of pressure. The second cut was impossible and totally messed up the book. It looks like the first cut "unbalanced" some parts because of loosened bolts because of shipping or sitting for a long time. can you please make a follow up video about probably loose bolts or misaligned parts that could happen so that I can fix it before I buy a new blade? BTW, do you recommend sharpening (diy or where?) or buying new blade? Thank you for everything. You are very probably helping more people than you think.
@MommyShareSpace2 ай бұрын
Hi, engineereuler1762. Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words. I am happy that you found some of the cutter videos helpful. I appreciate your support. 🙏🏾 That's great you were able to find a deal on your cutter! I hope you can get it up and running soon. I can make a video sharing the bolts I've noticed so far that have loosened over time, especially along the blade. I had called around my local machine shops about sharpening the blade, and at the time, it was about $30 US, which is close to the price I paid for the blade. Places to call around will be metalwork shops, and some hardware stores have scissors and knife sharpening services. Or Googling guillotine knife sharpening near me. I also read online that someone took theirs into a shop, and because they needed to figure out the angle of the blade slope, the shop took off too much, and now their blade is useless. I'll have to do some more research on that myself. I ended up purchasing another blade as it was more convenient. That was a few years ago because I accidentally cut through a staple. Plus, at the time, I thought the cost to sharpen was a lot. Now I have two blades. I was considering sharpening the extra one myself. I am hesitant about the safety of the course and if I will change the blade's angle too much, which will affect the cut. But KZbin is a great resource, so I'll see. I hope that helped:) And again, thank you!
@engineereuler17622 ай бұрын
@@MommyShareSpace thank YOU for deciding to spend the time on the detailed reply. We are all super busy people and it was very generous of you. I totally agree that buying makes more sense than sharpening or trying to find someone to do it even though it is sad to have to throw away a beautifully made and heavy part like one of those blades only for a tiny missing piece after a staple cut (I think mine has two of those missing less than 1mm diameter pieces). I can't wait for your next video and until then, I'll do my homework of studying you old dozen or so guillotine videos again and see if there are any others in other people's channels.

Do 12” long coils work for larger size books such as A4 or close to 12” long books? I want to bind piano sheet music books that are close to those sizes. How much extra coil do you need in order to cut and crimp?
@MommyShareSpace3 ай бұрын
Hi, Yes, they will. I tested to make sure, measuring it next to my daughter's piano book. Construction paper is the same length, and it worked perfectly! It leaves just enough room for one coil at the top and bottom, which is enough to cut and crimp. It cuts it close, but it works! Sorry for the late response. I was Ill. Best wishes. When do you adjust the depth gauge? My understanding is that you want the holes farther away from the edge for thicker stacks. How many pages thick would you adjust it or do you do all of your books the same depth?
@MommyShareSpace3 ай бұрын
Hi, Yes, your understanding is correct. Smaller books around 100 pages or less will not need much margin and might do fine on the 2.5mm setting. If it's over 100 pages but less than 200 pages, the middle setting, or 4.5mm, will be perfect. For anything more significant than 200 pages, the last setting on this machine, a 4.5mm setting, might be best. The frequency of page turning and how much available margin also need to be considered. I often leave my machine on the 4.5mm setting, and most times, it has worked out great. Because many of the books I bind are for kids, the larger books sometimes fall apart a bit. If I was binding for someone else, I might be more meticulous about adjusting the margin allowance. Sorry for the late response. I was Ill. All the best to you, and thank you for watching!

Hi! Thanks for this video. It has been very helpful! Question, my son did levels 1-3 of FLL then this past school year he did level 3 of Fix It. He did well with it and needed me here and there. For this coming school year I’m debating between level 4 FLL and level 4 Fix It. In your experience would you recommend going back to FLL for a year and then picking back up with Fix It? He’s going into 6th/7th grade.
@MommyShareSpace5 ай бұрын
Hi:) Sorry for the late response. I would say it depends. In my case, I am choosing to go back to a more scripted one-on-one approach with my daughter, as it would be more beneficial than her moving forward to level three in Fix It Grammar at this time. Because level 3 and 4 of FLL have to be done with the parent/teacher involved, that should also be considered. However, if I had thought that going through a specific trouble topic, say using the glossary (I just did this with one of them, and now she understands a topic she didn't get before) would be enough and that she could do most of it on her own successfully, I probably would have just moved forward- maybe at a slower pace. I hope sharing that might be helpful. Thank you for watching the video and commenting. All the best in the upcoming school year!

Also, not sure if I missed that info in your video , but did you teach them 3x per week like the book recommended or one lesson per day would be ok too? Thanks in advance !
@MommyShareSpace5 ай бұрын
Hi! Thank you. 🙂. After looking back at the goals for levels 1 and 2 in the FLA and the final review and glossary of terms in level 1, if your daughter did some grammar in grade 1 and had no struggles, it should be fine to start with level 2. Level 1 covers the basics, which are reviewed at the beginning of Level 2. The schedule, in my opinion, depends on the child. If it will be easier for you, you can start with the schedule they suggest, 20 minutes per day for 3-4 days) just to get started. But, from my experience, you will soon be able to tell the pace that would work best for you and your daughter early on. Also, some lessons might be easier to complete in a sitting, especially in the beginning, so we often would continue the lesson the next day for longer ones. In the teacher's section of the book, they even state it's better to do less and do it and do it correctly:) There will also be those times when faster will be better, and you will know:) A lesson per day sounds fine. Ultimately, unless life happened, we were doing a lesson from Tuesday to Thursday. (I checked my old planner). Sorry for the long response, but hopefully that helps. All the best in the upcoming school year! 🙂

Modifying the machine is probably not advisable. Learning proper bindery techniques applicable to this machine would be my personal advice. (I've run Lawson walk-around 4color, ABDick 360s and 9810s with t-heads printing presses, and virtually every type of bindery equipment you can think of including a lawson stack paper cutter [52in throat IIRC].) Learn to correctly JOG your paper or stock into place. Also learn how to set the clamp bar pressure correctly to the stock being cut (over-clamping will move your stack pre-cut as well as underclamping which allows the stack to move during cutting), and always keep a sharp blade on the machine AND keep a clean teflon cutting pad on the machine. You would be amazed at how much a tattered cut pad will affect the quality of your cuts. These four things alone will increase your paper cut quality as well as efficiency - far more than making modifications to a machine like this one will likely accomplish. Just my .02 worth (not adjusted for inflation)
