I have a question. We have a diesel generator in parallel with grid and reportedly it's sharing real load but doesn't seem to be able to pick up reactive load. What problems can you think of? Failed droop circuit in AVR? The diesel is burning fuel and carrying real load. But the AVR seems unresponsive.

This is not even possible 😂, droop reduce the voltage on the generator that generates the highest current, to generate an even powerfactor

Isrchronous control is where the generator, no matter the loads, will maintain the same frequency and at same rpm.

In a 1000MW coal fire steam turbine generator, how much responsive reserve will there be? Is the amount of responsive reserve the same in either high frequency or low frequency direction? Is the dynamic range of the governor still 0-1000MW even though it might take several hours for the generator to ramp up to that power?

When you add loads The second generator won't be affected, it will draw power from the isochronous generator.

There’s so much more to this topic… I don’t think it can be condensed into 2 minutes. You don’t distinguish paralleling in isolated grid vs utility, swing machines, tertiary frequency control, kW vs speed droop, resulting frequency from two or more machines in droop, proportionality of the load sharing vs droop setting, etc…
