Curiosity gets to me when I watch people who say they love salmon but will fish on their reds while they spawn and die. Please explain why it’s okay to stress them out and release them. If you truly love the sport of fishing let’s change the rules not to fish on spawning fish. I love fishing but refuse to do this. I guided for years and when I was younger was told by older guides not to do it. Now I understand why.

It took me a couple years to realize this as well. I think these guys that made this video are still in college and young and have not been salmon fishing very long. I've talked to them specifically about this. I've encouraged them to find the deep holes for fresh fish and fish for these fish in the lower rivers and I've seen them do that at times. They maybe don't have the same access with wading lower rivers? Many people without boats wait for these fish to hit gravel and for the easiest access to catch them. I agree still there needs to be a transition in the mind of appreciation for these fish to leave them off gravel but I'm not sure that will change in the masses anytime soon. I think a bigger problem is still people taking more fish then allowed. I hear of it every year. I don't fish gravel for these fish, but I know PLENTY, and I mean PLENTY of guides who do it still here in Michigan all season and then release them.... not sure the answer big picture. I definitely get most frustrated when people snag and keep more then dnr regulations.

Great video, out of curiosity, why the Lake trout could not handle those invasive species? They don't eat them? Did Salmon displace the Lake trout this is why there are a lot fewer of them now or not really?
