Help me out here a bit, my knowledge of Ontario regiments is a little slim. Who are the Highland regiments, there seem to be. at least 3 of them, I think? I think the "Tron-Scots" with their plain kilts I recognize, but the others I don't. It is also interesting to see the "old" CF Greens.....I'm guessing they now have the re-introduced "pips" and "red-tags" (Colonel/General collars) again.

As a Canadian, I've literally never seen a military parade that had anything other than bagpipes, snares and bass drums playing. Genuinely feels wrong. Something about the bagpipes just feels so much stronger than anything else they could use.. brass, woodwind, anything.

As a former bagpiper myself, the cadence pipebands typically use is a slower pace and more difficult for regular soldiers to march to, they are often train/march at a faster pace. So they are actually doing well here.
@ivankostamo9698

@@pacificprospector This is quite true! The difference between 116-120 and 90-100 bpm makes all the difference. I was in the Air Cadets until recently, and it was near impossible to keep anyone who isn't used to pipe marches in step, let alone the 3/4s. But yes, they are doing quite well, and their best when it's more cluttered.

All Australians were volunteers as well. Not many people know but Australia did not get a standing army until 1947. From 1901-1947 the country was defended by the Militia. Most of our Generals in WW1 and WW2 were Militia. General Leslie Morshead was he first allied General to defeat the German Army in WW2. He was the manager of a shipping company in Sydney in 1939- Orient Lines. But he was in the Militia. He only became full time Australian Army when WW2 broke out kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIvIlZt4a7SfrM0

@@dougraddi908 Oh no worries at all neighbor (USA and Canada ARE neighbors after all), and... Ah that's a good reason to be loyal I suppose. However it was the French that helped the Colonists claim their independence so we the United States owe them so much. They also gave us the statue of liberty which was real generous of them.
@dougraddi908
@dougraddi908 5 жыл бұрын
@@shyryTsr2k yes they did give you the statue. I don't mean to be hostile to the French but when you've grown up around racism and believing you live in a free and beautiful country where we can live together as one then finding out there are a people who don't share your beliefs and want out then if your not strong enough to deal with that, you form a negative opinion on them as I have. I'm an Inuit from Canada's Arctic and living in the south life is great. I found out not everyone wants Canada to separate and it gives me hope that one day we can live together in peace under one flag. So I stay loyal to the Queen who gave us this country. Without England then I don't know who would we have become.

Uh, nope. I was there, in 1 RCR in 1983 during the Regimental Centennial In London, ON when those scarlets were issued. Now, since I was in Charles Coy, 8 Pl, AKA The Corps of Drums, we had been wearing scarlets since forever and had them fitted so we looked sharp. The rest of the battalion however just got issued the closest size that fit and they looked like a bag of hammers. And those silly plastic Wolseley helmets did not look much better. I see that the Regiment still won't spring for a proper tailor or two. The CF uniform at that time did look sharp, what with the trousers bloused into the SSF jump boots and the SSF shoulder badge. Don't even get me started on dragging the left foot on the halt. If the RSM had seen that in my day... Man! Extra duties for everybody!
