I have a 2008 XJ X358 parked it over the winter in perfect working order, went to start it the following summer it was smoking badly when accelerated hard the restricted performance light and message came on, I had half a tank of diesel in the tank so I started going for night time drives driving normally to burn up all the diesel, this took me 3 weeks to get the diesel as low as I could, and when I filled her up again I first poured some diesel additive then pumped the new diesel and the car started driving very well . No more restricted performance, job done

I keep having the problem. One day the car is fine and when it is hot, after half an hour, it comes back in performance restriction. It shakes, it's very unpleasant. The car was immobilized for a long time and a friend of mine, a technician, told me that it will pass. You have to drive it regularly. One wheel also made some noise, it's ok.

Hi, drive every day at least 20km for a week, use highest octane petrol, E98 for example. It should pass. Wheel noise is probably not connected to engine problem.

The gearing odd on these, takes a bit of getting used to which gear you should be in, its either too high or too low. I had one new in 2012. Had problems with the car from day one though, not the engine, that was brilliant. Had to get rid, got an Abarth 500 instead.
