I want to thank you David for putting out the effort to make these videos, more importantly i want to thank you for your enthusiasm towards the instrument, its motivated me a lot. I have been working my way through your book, (a must have by the way) for the past year or so, trying to better my playing and we are all lucky to have you teaching us! By the way, its called the Higbee notch, that click when you turn a screw (or a fire hose coupling) backwards. Cheers

For a standard 10 hole Harmonica I doubt either mic would make a difference in sound pickup. Just not that much area to cover. The preference would be in how the mic breaks up when playing if you're looking for some mean Blues sound. If you don't want distortion then you'd want the mic that picks up the natural sound of the instrument best. It may all come down to Apples vs Oranges.

Hello, after several years of use, has this harmonica held up? Has it gone out of tune more quickly than a well-known brand harmonica (hohner, suzuki, seydel etc...)?

O.K, I love this harmonica for sound, ergonomics, and maintenance. However, the tiny spring keeps braking, I mean every 2-3 months. I got tired of this, and the harmonica is thrown into a drawer together with old discarded harmonicas. Do you have any recommendations?

Looks quite brilliant, because (rapid) sliding lubricated with saliva causes me a lot of problems. That was what brought me here. But how can you play double tones or chords in this way? And the slide does not exactly fit on the mouthpiece as I can see, so there must be air leakage. Is that not a problem? You still get good clean tone & notes? Are there other ideas to improve sliding on the chromatic? Thanks, Tryout.
@mastersofharmonica6200

The Slider fits within 1/10,000 of an inch and does not leak air at all. You can straddle two contiguous holes for two tones, or Slider can be made with multiple holes, up to 5.

Im sorry David, this is not a good idea. Best to take it apart and clean it systematically. It needs to dry out properly, and the valves will not be happy with this method you describe. Best to Google Neil Adlers method (KZbin). Hohner Repair also has some good videos. But quick and easy isn’t always the best. Good luck!

Hello Mr Kettlewell. I'm just curious. If someone was to ship their harmonica to you for customization, do you offer that kind of service? If not, do you have any recommendations for someone who does? Also, looking for a 16 hole chromatic harmonica. Preferably one that is airtight and all holes play. (Reason why i asked the first question). Cheers!

I keep wanting to encourage chromatic players to watch videos of master harmonica artists of the 30's and later for inspiration. I think that there is a lot of emphasis on "blues" and "jazz" type music but there are many other types of beautiful music including folk, country, spanish, classical, and "popular" music to enjoy playing on your chromatic harmonica.
