We stayed in the basement apartment of the log cabin that the Lake Lure Inn owners lived in directly across from the Lake Lure Inn in June. I took tons of photos and drone footage never knowing that this beautiful place would no longer exist in just a couple of months. The log cabin is still standing, but the water is all the way to the door now. I look at the photos now and it’s like a dream captured on film. I’ve been going to Chimney Rock since the early 80s and will miss it terribly. I’m looking forward to going back and hopefully being able to add to their economy. If anyone would like to see any of the photos, leave a reply, and I will be glad to share.

I grew up in Rutherford County, although I live in Florida, now. This goes way beyond heartbreaking, but I have a question. The damage along the Broad River is very newsworthy but how about other parts of Lake Lure? It's a beautiful vacation area, with a number of full time residents. Did the storm inflict damage to homes that were not on the river? I have talked to friends and family who still live in the area, but they are mostly East of Lake Lure. Thanks for your coverage!

At 46:00, disappointing to hear Mark Prater call someone (who was taking ownership of a problem and personally seeking to improve his efforts "embarrassing." The alternative would be to deflect and say "we all did a poor job saving lives that day." Beyond the sour grapes, great podcast from CWG, thanks for sharing, even though I'm a little late to finding it!

Even now he is at work. In accidents and calamities by sea and by land, in great conflagrations, in fierce tornadoes and terrific hailstorms, in tempests, floods, cyclones, tidal waves, and earthquakes, in every place and in a thousand forms, Satan is exercising his power. He sweeps away the ripening harvest, and famine and distress follow. He imparts to the air a deadly taint, and thousands perish by the pestilence. These visitations are to become more and more frequent and disastrous. Destruction will be upon both man and beast. GC88 p. 589.3 Amen!

The people in mountains still have no electricity and are freezing in the uninsulated campers given to them. People have been taking them propane tanks for heaters. Now here comes the forest fires starting in the exact same areas! Debris never cleaned, roads blocked and people just trying to survive! Last thing they need to worry about are fires out of control and hitting the propane! Good Lord why are they not helping these poor souls… what world are we living in??

I believe below a certain altitude those advisories get turned off because you have nuisance airplanes on the ground. They could set it off, so TCS would not help in this situation when you are just a few hundred feet above the ground.

The difference with these fires, compared to California fires, is that North Carolina has had snow recently, so there is not an overly dry forest condition - an important difference.

6:46-7:11 is why he is the greatest. If I recall, Mr. Spann left another station that didn't support the constant coverage during severe weather. I'm not from the area but the folks there are fortunate to have him for their meteorologist.

We made it home from USC that Friday afternoon. I was a freshman and grew up in the Lake Katharine area. A friend had an old-fashioned jeep. We rode out to Spring Valley Country Club, and took whatever sled-like object we could find out onto the course. Had a blast. There was very little traffic.

I experienced freezing rain when i lived in puyallup Washington. We had a green belt of forest trees and evergreens in the backyard. This was winter 2011 and the forest at night sounded like shattering glass everywhere it was such an amazing experience 😅 but we lost power for 4 days and theres no driving while the roads are frozen

As a Colorado Native from 1977-1999 (family still lives there), my wife and I moved to Charleston three years ago. Here's some advice from someone that knows how to drive in snow. The kind of snow we're going to see here is not the same as we'd get in the low humidity States, like Colorado. I'd stay off the roads, mostly because of other people that aren't used to driving in it. The amount of bridges, especially with curves, are not going to be friendly. Especially when the temperature goes above freezing during the day and then turns all of that into ice later. Since I joined the Marines in 1999, I've lived in Pensacola for a year, Biloxi for a year, New Orleans for 18 years, and Denver for 4 (the second time). Any time I saw freezing temps with moisture, I always saw a pile up due to the ice that looks like water, or black ice. Staying safe = staying home.

I actually emailed Gov McMaster about that. Since Obama’s cuts, our state parks have stopped removing deadfall trees. Not only is it an eyesore, but they won’t allow campers to cut the wood to burn. Same as wildlife management land. This last storm messed up a lot of trails and hunting land. If they let people cut the deadfall to burn, it would help.
