Is this 40% or maybe more 3:41 water to be so fluid?

Shame you didn’t write the amounts of mica and oils. It looks nice but not helpful to me.
@micasandmore Жыл бұрын
Thank you for asking about the amounts. I use 1 teaspoon of mica per cup of soap, that's my standard rate, although most micas can be used at half that with good results. For the mica in oil, I generally use twice as much oil as mica, but it just needs to be pourable. Use as little or as much of either as you like, and find out works best for you. I'm sorry I missed this comment and didn't reply sooner.

I love this video your batter is so fluid, but at the mashed potatoe stage is it done? because I did not see the part where it is tested?
@micasandmore Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I loved making this one. Yes, it was done by the time it looked like mashed potatoes, and I don't show when I test my HP. Even if it weren't 100% saponified, as it set up, it would get there. It took me a long time, and a LOT of overcooked bits in my soap, to realize that it was done much sooner than I thought it was.

Also, my apologies on missing your comment and replying so late!
@karinacanova7960 Жыл бұрын
@@micasandmore thank you so much, no worries, that is my problem, I don’t seem to get to know the point of when it is done, perhaps at times it is already and I continue to cook it. But I guess it is best to wait a little more after the mash potatoe stage, just little and done.

I never knew that 50%water can be reserved and be added later..Thanks for the tips
@micasandmore Жыл бұрын
While you "can" I don't recommend it anymore. This soap set up with a U shape at the top that got deeper as it cured. While that's not the end of the world, it's also not a look I really enjoyed. I have found that using sodium lactate, yogurt, keeping the soap warm/covered, and most of all, not over cooking all can lead to a nicely fluid soap without going over a standard 36% amount of water. That being said, it's just water, and it will cure out eventually and no harm either way. My apologies for such a late reply!
@shanthinandakumar2 жыл бұрын
Fantastic..What is the ratio between lye:water Thankyou
@micasandmore Жыл бұрын
I used 50% water as a percentage of oil weight, I didn't calculate the lye to water ratio (and I don't have that formula saved anymore). I don't suggest this much water anymore though, as it sets up with a deep U shape, and it takes longer to cure out. I'm sorry for such a late reply!

love it! Can you please tell me, what is the effect of adding the extra liquid after the cook, aside from the obvious of it making the batter more fluid for swirls and such? Are there any other things to consider when making HP soap this way?
@micasandmore2 жыл бұрын
While I don't add this much liquid to my HP anymore, the whole point was to get more fluidity. If you are adding a superfat, or some delicate ingredient, after the cook would be the best time to add it. What ended up happening with this soap is that it had a sunken top, after it cured. I have learned more about getting a fluid HP since. It doesn't hurt to have extra water, it just takes longer to cure, and it may get the sunken in top look.

Thanks for the video and inspiration, came out so pretty. Just tried this today! So do you think the soap absorbs the extra oil? I was wondering if the oil and mica will seep out after the cut, but it sure doesn't look like it! Yay!!
@micasandmore2 жыл бұрын
This was a really fun design, and most of the oil absorbed just fine. I had a few spots that oil weeped out of, but in time it didn't. Just to prevent that or the chance of separation, I add a tiny bit of soap when I try this now.

Hi Marie, I'm sorry I missed this comment. I consider this not significant acceleration, though it was getting thicker by the end of the pour. Please note that I always hand stir in my fragrance though, as that could make a difference. I hope that you like the scent and that it works great for you!
