Great video and fantastic stove - delighted with my Mini 4. One thing you didn't cover is the auto air aspect - reportedly a great efficiency feature - but users have no way to know if it is working. Any insight? Also sorry to contradict but oddly I find our Mini 4 burns better with no ash on the grate. Amount in the ashpan doesn't seem to matter. I really don't understand why this is the case, as all advice is to burn on some ash yet our Mini 4 prefers none. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. The automatic air intake opens on lighting and refilling thanks a bimetallic spring which opens and closes as the stove heats up and cools down. More info on the link below. www.hwam.com/advantages/wiking-automatic Thanks for the tips!

Just got one of these fitted and so far so good , I have two stoves now a wormwood foxfire and now a Blithfield five which is much bigger in comparison. I've had the foxfire 14 years with no problems so if this is as reliable I'll be delighted.

Hi, great video. The '2 black lines' (sorry I don't know the terminology) at the rear of the burner - do these become less visible the more the burner is used?
@igniteharrogate

Hi and thanks for the kind words. They do become less visible over time as the firebricks tend to discolour as you use the stove. The bars are where the air is drawn through as part of the new high efficiency/low polluting regulations which we totally embrace. Hope that helps!

Why do you not recommend pushing the heat control all the way in? In the manual it says the C series is certified to always draw air, even in the lowest setting to get a very long lasting burn.
@markh1ggins

You're correct. In fact my C5 still fires way too much with the damper all the way in
@87vortex87
@87vortex87 9 ай бұрын
@markh1ggins what do you mean with "too much"? It provides about 5kw of heat. If the rooms gets to hot, your room need less than 5kw to be heated. You can put in less wood, but the stove is designed to burn with highest efficiency on normal load. You can see the temperatures in the stove details he showed. If the room still gets to hot, you can open a door to another room to increase the amount of kw required to heat the room. In that case you're actually increasing the room "size" to be able to absorb more kw. What we did is placing a stove ventilator on top of the stove to disperse the heat through a nearby door, and get more even heat distribution. Saves you 1 or 2 degrees in the room the stove is in.

Thanks for the comment. On the tinderbox, you’ll find the glass will blacken if you push the control fully in. It also produces smoke which is why we suggest you control the stove but avoid shutting it down fully. All stoves works differently and the charnwood does allow the control to be pushed fully in without blackening the glass. No detriment either way. Just a different operation.

The control is variable really. Pulled fully open is the boost setting for lighting. Once the stove is up to temperature, you can control the stove accordingly. We don’t recommend pushing the control fully in as it causes smoke but you cannot shit the stove down fully.

Found this video very useful as we've just had this same model of wood stove installed. One question though, ours came with a fuel retainer 'grate' which yours did not have, so is it safe to use without this retainer as it does block the view of the fire a little. Cheers.

I’ve got a multi fuel burner that looks similar to that one but mine is made by portway. With a full insulated metal flue. It sounds silly to say but I’m very disappointed with how much heat it puts out, it’s 5 kw. And my room is 17x12. But with one half of a split log on it at a time the room becomes unbearable to sit in .I got told it was because I was putting too much wood on. If I put any less on there won’t be anything to burn. I don’t tend to use it now because of that. The wood I have is kiln dried hornbeam .I’m wondering if there is another type of wood that gives out less heat.?

@igniteharrogate

It’s more the type and size of log you’re burning. Ash is a good wood to burn as it’s a slow burning wood. You may be burning soft wood? Also, you’ll find all modern stoves will not allow you to shut them down fully as it’s very polluting.
@troygoodacre2718
@troygoodacre2718 Жыл бұрын
@@igniteharrogate It’s only half of a split log maybe 2 inches thick and about 10-11 inches long. I lay the log in the fire then kindling on top . You can only burn 1 log at a time and after a couple of hours the heat becomes unbearable in the room. My room is 17 ft by 11ft3. I never shut the lounge door. In my old house I had a Firefox 5 stove. That gave a comfortable heat. This new one is a portway luxima. I’m wondering if it’s meant for a bigger room

There are a few different ways of lighting a stove and it’s just down to personal preference. You’re referring to the ‘top down’ method where logs are laid first and smaller pieces in top with firelighters. Equally as effective.

Hi Darren, great video and very informative. I have just had this burner installed and it does take longer for the fire to heat up and also does die down a lot when the door is shut. Is this normal for the first time of lightning? Thanks
@ignite818
@ignite818 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jonathan, there are a few things to check in order to get the fire going properly. Firstly, stoves do not light easily on mild days as the flue must be warmer than outside for it start drawing. Secondly, I would ensure the control is fully pulled out and the door is slightly cracked open during lighting and thirdly, ensure you use good dry kindling and firelighters. Hopefully this will help a little. Remember if you find the fire dies down, you may have added too much fuel. Its a balance of the the correct level of air and fuel. Hope that helps.
