Hi there, in this project I used 270g watercolour paper - not sure on the brand - Montvale maybe. And the watercolours are Koh-i-noor stackable sets

Just come back from holiday having seen some amazing Tetra Prints in an exhibition. I have done intaglio printing on courses; puzzled how TPs were made. The most obvious thing I got from your excellent video is - use a juice carton! I didn't know they were lined with aluminium foil. D'uh. We don't drink juice so I didn't know this vital piece of information. The rest is easy peasy ! Got to thinking of other sources of foil lined cardboard - Ah, smoked salmon packets! [a lovely treat] I suppose I could even make my own with kitchen foil glued to card. Any crinkles would add to the texture . . . The press is no trouble - I have a CRICUT !!!

This is wonderful. Can it be done with other types of clay if I don't have access to paper clay?
@thevirtualartroom

Paperclay is just regular potters clay with paper pulp added. You could use regular low-fire, earthenware, stoneware clay. However, I don't think air dry clay would work due to the number of joins.

It is! My issue is that you can only get a very small number of prints from a drinks carton - the material is soft. Still appealing, though.

What a fantastic tutorial. I really appreciate your direct teaching style. A question about the clay; do you make the paper clay yourself or buy premade? And, why do you only bisque fire? Wouldn’t it be stronger taken to full temp, or does the bisque allow the stain to adhere being that the clay is still porous?
@thevirtualartroom
@thevirtualartroom 8 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. The paperclay is pre-made. Bisque fired because the clay is more porous and absorbs the paint better - but is also weaker, so it's a compromise. Better to bisque fire, stain/glaze and glaze fire. But this adds an extra step that some teachers may not have time for. I have 4 classes working on this project at the same time, so I try to simplify.

Thanks! That is a glue sponge. I've just started using them in the classroom. You put a kitchen sponge in a sealable container and soak it with PVA. The kids press the collage papers into the sponge and it coats it with glue.

@@thevirtualartroom Thank you! I will try it with Nori paste--that would be handy! I am trying to stay away from plastics in my art so I use a gelli with natural earth paint and glue that isn't plastic based to make collage.
