I wonder is this is a stereo, with a radio, or is this just a Hi-Fi? I know a person that used to have one similar to this one. It was a Maplewood cabinet. It was by Emerson just like this one. Just a different color and it had a radio to it. I like to have one. I think this is just great.

I need help! What does the little metal lever next to the tone arm do?
@JimmyO1957Ай бұрын
When a 33 LP record drops, it hits that lever, which makes the tonearm go only as far as the start of the record.

I have our family's 59 Emerson "Stereo Hi Fidelity" console with the left channel speakers custom placeable (being in its own cabinet, with a 20-foot speaker wire.) It has an 8" woofer and a pair of 3" tweeters per channel. It also has an AM tuner built in. However, the record changer is a 4 speed BSR UA-8 with a flipper cartridge; stereo on the LP side with a slide-in easy to change cartridge. The other side is for 78s of course. The cabinet top holder/slider is identical to yours, as is the blue High-Fidelity label and the nameplate on the front panel. Our cabinet is wider than yours to make room for the custom left speaker cabinet to be stored (and used if desired) internally. I want to do a complete restoration on it. What a wonderful sound it had.

These Console Stereos are so cool! My grandmother recently unveiled hers from the 1970s. It mimics French renaissance style. White with gold accents. It has LP storage, an LED marantz amplifier, and a Dual 1228 turntable. Unfortunately it is missing the stacker spindle, the auto function is broken, the speed is stuck on 33 rpm, and both the speakers hum when set to phonograph. Unfortunately my grandmother does not want it to get fixed due to costs and the heaviness of it, (She uses it like a regular piece of furniture, putting stuff on top, etc) so its sad to see it not functional, but maybe one day I could turn her around and have her fix it. Every restoration of yours reminds me of sleeping over at her house as a kid trying to fix it. Thanks and great job! :-)

I still have the 59 Emerson Stereo/Hi-Fi with custom placeable left channel speaker cabinet. My Dad bought it brand new for our home. It came with a fabulous Stereo demonstration record, complete with jets taking off from one side to the other, and many other such sound effects. It has a slide-in flip cartridge for its BSR UA-8 4 speed changer.

True. Although, I think a lot of it has to do with the recording also.

Hey Jimmy!!! Great work here. I have this exact same model but it's missing the front plate with the logo. I have had it for over 20 years now since I was about 16 or 17. I have to dust it off a bit. My sound isn't as good as yours since your restoration work seems to be top notch. I would love to get in touch with you to for some help on how to get a hold of that front plate and logo. Would you be able to help with this?

Words cant explain how much I want this; not even this exact model, ANY record console. My current record player is a very bad all in one component system, that plays records, cds, cassettes, radio, and extra. The cassette player makes my tapes sound like they are underwater, the cd player works somewhat decent, the record player needle had to be replaced TWICE, it also sits very light on the record, making any little scratch visible, my records play with static, it just sucks overall. I really want a dresser record console or something of the sort, but obliviously I cant because my current record player still plays my records (regardless of quality) and it wouldnt make sense to buy a new one. My grandmother has a dresser record player, buts it nothing like this, it doesnt have a changer, the needle is broken, as is the needle housing lock, the automatic system of auto putting the needle on the record is torched, the record player wont even spin unless you give it a push, and the speed adjustment lever is stuck at 33. it doesnt even have a 45 adaptor! So thats absolutely trash aswell. If I found a dresser record player I would take such good care of it but of course they have to be over 1000 dollars making it nearly impossible for someone with no repair skills, or money to spend on this stuff to find one. Maybe in the future ill find one, but for now, its this garbage record player, hopefully I can find one dresser record player before this one scratches all my records :/

Most likely it got too expensive for things to stay like this.

I remember it had 4 speeds, the tall spindle you could stack records on so when one record finished another would drop down and start playing automatically. There was an adapter that would slide over the spindle to play a bunch of 45s. The needle would flip sideways for another needle for just 78 rpm records. High tech for back then.

When I was a child I could stare at turntables like this for hours… and did… In particular, the round tallish spindle brings back an almost cellular memory… Young kids today are really missing something
