While at the time I loved this show, it was as they say groundbreaking....but watching it now, it seems the whole show was really about Sex, more than death! Everyone was screwing everyone else, in the craziest places too, example, plumber comes to fix drain, oh he's gay so is David, so they have sex in the embalming room! But then there was the 2 contractor dudes screwing behind a drop cloth while putting up drywall! And plenty of heterosexual sex too! It almost makes it impossible to rewatch because it's totally unreal!, but of course lovers of the show will say otherwise, it did have great characters and writing, but totally over the top with the Sex!

George literally lives at the Pi appartment (314), probably a reference to the move Pi where Max Cohen is a crazy mathematician. Alan Ball is surely a genius

One of the best pandemic discoveries for me was Red House Painters. Little did I know, that Mark Kozelek's music would become my mid-20s music soundtrack. And for that, I am beyond grateful. He is one of the best musicians of our time.
@BryanDrift Жыл бұрын
That happened to me too. I found him about a little over a year ago when I was 26. And he’s become my theme as well. Folk music has become my go to, when before used to be Metal or Trap most of the time. Quite a drastic change for sure..

"And I know what you face in the night / And I know you'll be alright..." Something about that modest lyric strikes me deeply. Gives me feelings of Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush soothing the listener in Gabriel's 1986 track 'Don't Give Up.' Both wonderful songs, but RHP's strikes me a little harder coming from the emotional lows that fester in some of their earlier records.

With each season I started to dislike Ruth more and more. She had crazy expectations of others and was a complete controlfreak. She couldn't accept the way things or people were.

A little less obscurity and a little more meaning would go a long way, lyric-wise...
@noahz56 жыл бұрын
From Mark’s book ‘Nights of Passed Over’: ‘“Over My Head” took me back to a hotel room in Berlin. It was November 1993, Red House Painters were touring Europe and we’d just cancelled a few shows when I came down with the flu. The line “shiny sinks to let myself out in” is a reference to vomiting in the sink. What a miserable tour for me: my second in Europe, constantly in motion, out of my element and weak with illness. I remember getting hungry and mustering up strength to leave the hotel in search of food. It was awful, walking through the cold rain, doing charades for scowling men in kabob restaurants and returning to the sterile room with falafel sandwiches. There is no place more unsympathetic for a singer than being sick on a small budget tour, especially far away in unfamiliar countries.’
