Man things have changed since I was in the Navy, the entire crew was not witness to Mast proceedings, only the Captain, CMC, Master-at-Arms, division officer, department head and any witnesses to an offense but not the whole crew!

Navy Vet who was a shore based SP and had attended several Captains Masts, and Court Marshalls but have never seen a Sailor show up with a uniform like that. What a disgrace.

Had a guy in my division just came off of restriction and within an hour he threaten me with a knife and another 1st class because we were giving him a little beef about it. He lightly tapped me with the knife the 1st class tackle him to the deck. The captain had a captains mass within 30min of that happening and did the same thing. Since we were in port, he went to the brig 3 days with bread and water, kicked off the boat and the NAVY. The guys that took him to the brig said when he got there the officer look at his orders laughed and asked him if he wanted white or wheat.

Saw the skipper twice. XOI twice drb once. Not a proud moment. Didn't get busted down. I was lucky. And it's nothing to be proud of. This sailor was hellishly disrespectful. I respected my chiefs senior chiefs master chiefs and officers. My first Captain's Mast was in bootcamp and later was removed from my record. My 2nd NJP was 1 yr before i got out. My skipper gave me a suspended bust. The feeling of failing your chain of command is the worst. You mess up take it as it is and take full responsibility. And i barely made 2nd class that time. This sailor is a clearly disgrace to the Navy. A pure shitbag.

The military is a waste of your time. They make promises and never keep them. Do you want a free education just below income You are free healthcare just become lowing come Even the illegal immigrants are getting those things for free Don’t waste your time, listening to these old men here talking about how great it was being in the service. That’s why they got out because they’re old now rethinking their lives.

I was in submarines for 16-years, and I have genuine questions regarding this Captain's Mast. I never attended a mast under charges, only as a witness. Captain's Mast was always held in the officer's wardroom. No COB would have allowed a crew member to attend in ripped/torn dress whites as does this seaman recruit. A Captain's Mast is a serious and formal event, with only required representatives allowed in the proceedings... it wasn't open to the crew in the crew's mess. No Captain's Mast was ever filmed. I guess things have changed since my time in submarine service (1985 - 2001).

That’s why I stayed out of the military. The seriousness of this scene is ridiculous. That poor guy has obviously been treated badly by everyone on board, probably because the color of his skin and he then has to go through this nonsense. Now yell at me for pointing out the obvious.

20 years in the Navy been to NJP my self. I'm here to tell you this kid is a hot mess. My guess is he's TRYING to get kicked out. Wyoming is a ballistic missile submarine. This kid was running around in reactor radiation areas. Most are while radioactive very low risk, that said it needs to be tracked, He damaged the TDU (Trash Disposal Unit) Now THAT is a serious charge, because the TDU opens to the sea and could potentially endanger the whole boat. Running around the Missile Compartment with his shredded uniform tied around his head... OK now THAT is funny, I don't care who you are. As to the TLD (Thermal Luminescent Dosimeter). Probably not but well within the realm of possibility. Wow there aren't many numbers left in the UCMJ that he didn't manage to violate. I give hm full marks for thoroughness. The question is what do you do with him? If I was the CO I couldn't trust this kid to be by him self. The Sub is on deterrent patrol and can't just go to port or surface to get rid of this kid and there is just too much that he could do to very quickly hazard the boat. This kid is LUCKY he at Captain's Mast and not general court-martial. If he went to court-martial he would almost certainly be going to jail. What I find to be the weirdest part is he is a Seaman Recruit on a sub. That just does not happen, by the time you get out of sub school you should be at lest an E-3, So I think this is not his first trip to CO's mast and got reduced in rank previously. Completely shocked this shipwreck didn't get a BCD. Being familiar with SSBNs I'm not entirely sure where you would "confine" a sailor for three days, its not like an SSBN has a brig like CVNs or LDHs.

I'm a civilian with no military experience and I find this just crazy! I've had to go to court before because of traffic tickets and child support and you can bet you bottom dollar that I showed up dressed appropriately, stood there at a civilian form of attention and answered questions with yes your honor, no your honor and yes ma'am, no sir! I didn't have any "special" training for this, it was the way I was raised! Seeing this guy go out of his way to be disrespectful to the captain and the rest of the crew is mind boggling and on a nuclear submarine no less! I don't know all that comes along with a dishonorable discharge vs a honorable discharge - my Dad received an honorable discharge after fighting in Patton's Third Army - but I understand that a dishonorable has a lot of bad things that comes with it and follows you around for the rest of your life. It seems like the captain was trying to save this guy from that fate but at what cost? I gotta think that if he has screwed up this bad already, it'll happen again in the future!!

This is the new well undisciplined millennial military. And he got off with virtually no punishment. Back in my Army days, he would have been court martial, locked up for months and dishonorably discharged… With these type of elements defending our freedom, God help us….

He must have some type of intelligence because im ex navy(little creek va). You have to jump through a lot of hoops to get assigned to sub duty. They will not just assign you. Something happen and in my opinion it appears he is doing anything he can to get out of his assignment. Im just saying
