This new Buc-ee's in Brunswick, Georgia, will be just off of Route 95 at exit 42. The tentative opening date is June 2, 2025. I drive from Maryland to Florida and back on Route 95 at least once year, so I will be stopping here once it opens.

For rates that do operations on land like seabees we could give the camouflage uniforms and just give other navy personal an od green uniform.

Terrible idea, diesel submarines have far worse sonar techs because it prevents them from taking hollywood showers before and after watch.

Diesels have their place. SSK's are much better that SSN's in littoral and coastal waters. Due to the size differences (SSK's are around 1/3 to 1/2 the displacement of an SSN). The SSK's are harder to spot from the air in shallow waters, generally quieter as well. As an aside, the Royal Navy has for decades, when designing a new SSN, also created plans for a SSK version of the SSN. Does the USN have anything remotely up to date for a SSK design?

if we needed coastal defense assets it would be one thing but US subs have to go halfway around the world before their job actually begins. For diesel boats, that requires a logistical train of support ships and forward basing that is anything but cheap, and all to support subs that have a fraction of the overall capabilities and utility of our nuclear powered subs. One of the benefits of the nuke boats is they don't require such logics, able to sprint 600 to 900 miles a day to get on station quickly and begin theater operations while a diesel boat would take 3x longer to get on station and need to be refueled immediately after crossing the ocean, and then would need to be replenished multiple times for a several month long mission. instead of manned diesels we have several new classes of large drone subs that can loiter for months and can be launched from manned surface and submarine vessels, drones that are cheaper than any manned diesels and have excellent utility. *edited for clarification*

@@22steve5150 I don't agree with you in that SSN's require large logistics!! Diesel subs do!! Hence I already stated this

SSKs for coastal defence, not for galivanting around the World. The cheaper SSK's providing defence would allow for more of the SSN's to do the offensive taskings. As the SSK's would not be galivanting, the logitics costs are managable. The tail costs of not having to deal with the disposal of a spent reactor also adds to the equation. Being smaller, they could also be constructed in smaller yards. As currently, the US is really hurting for yards where SSN's and large warships can be constructed.

@@Yandarval missile and torpedo carrying maritime patrol aircraft, frigate and cutter sized surface craft with ASW towed arrays, and small, fast patrol vessels do coastal defense just as well and for a lot less than maintaining a small fleet of SSK's. USN and Coast Guard has such craft in spades already.

Well we're already in the NK commitment to go backwards as this has been a debate for decades just as the conventional carrier debate. Im all for conventional Ship's and subs because once they are done it's a problem storing and defueling reactors!! Besides that we no longer can sustain Conventional ship's and diesel subs because the stupid Navy needs Tenders to support them!! These ships need bigger logistics than Nuclear power ships and subs . Diesel subs are fine for countries that don't have global interest to protect! However a small squadron of diesel subs to protect our coastal waters makes many sense!!

Just Found your Channel, I particularly like the humour. My first exposure to the Navy was finding my Fathers photo album seeing the planes crash on CV's he was a plank owner on USS Randolph CV15 WW2 era. Me I joined the USMC, while Stationed at Camp Lejeune, I met and married a FN who was stationed on the ADRM2, going to visit her I got lots of exposure to Bubble Heads, I was taken in as a Token Marine on USS Narwall and a few 688's that were in the well of Alamogordo, I would have a rack and Chow on the boats when I was in Charleston, beat sleeping in my car. I got orders to 29 Palms CA, and broke my back in Yuma, sent to Sandiago Naval Naval Hospital, My Roommate was a 2nd Class on a boat I do not know his rate. We went out on Libo and he got om on the Boat that was in the Well Deck of the ADRM5 USS ARCO, apparently the boat was dived into the bottom outside of SD, and filming of Hunt For Red October had just finished up filming on Arco. Got to thou the boat the COB invited me into a space I looked in the space and told him I did not have clearance to enter an unsanatized space he said "What Could a DUMB Marine know?, and told me to go in" I saw the equipment and asked if we were listing to shrimp fucking and whales, the Sonarman looked at the COB and said Dumb Marine? we all had a good laugh. I did Military Construction for ten years later in life and spent 5 years building at Portsmouth NSY in Kittery, and was there when the Miami was the cookout, USS Pasadena was heading out and almost capsized one of the support tugs. I was also at PNSY when the USS Virginia needed to have some fishing gear removed from the propulsor. good Memories

Got to do a couple of beer days in my 20 years. Sucks when you earn them by not getting a port visit for so long. 2 beers per sailor, and they open them both when they hand em to you. Captain on the forrestal postponed our port visit for an extra week to do the beer day so the MARDET could stop having to guard the storeroom that the beer was locked up in.

Reallu feel like, considering what could be coming in the WestPac, the SSGNs should be conserved as long as possible. Shorter, or no deployments in the future so that theyre available til about 2030-32, when the VPM Virginias start apoearing in useful numbers. Pretty hard to replace that number of survivable VLS...!!!

We never drank aboard ship... But in ET school, a friend famously had a Captain Morgans box doing duty as a tv stand in the Q- the Chief during inspection laughed, saying he knew nobody would be so bold as to have a box that actually had somthing in it, and that he wouldnt even bother checking... But guess what???😂😂
