You'll need to crank the engine for about 10 seconds right after it shuts down to remove all remaining pressure from the system and push some clean air through the exhaust. I'm surprised it didn't prompt you to do so. It is mandatory to get near-perfect results.

I think it's important to point out; I just took one off. It was full of water. Not coolant. Just water. Many tend to think of an exhaust system as very dry but of any of you that see water coming out of a tail pipe and know where that's coming from. I think some serious damage will be from trucks that are started just to move them around and that's it. Condensation then happens in a high surface area environment like the EGR cooler. Trucks often soot just starting. You combine that with a wet EGR and it's going to get a lot of soot stuck to the inside. The byproducts of hydrocarbon fuels is CO2 and water.

It's also fun having that egr cooler assembly, blocking the oil filter housing with the mounted oil cooler.. the housings eventually leak oil, so the egr cooler has to come out to swap out that housing lol.. have one in now and have everything apart, 2015 7500 single axle dump with the auxiliary oil bypass filter, fun times.

So we bought one of these turds from Enterprise rent a truck for our business, when buying our truck we were struggling $$$$$$ and found out that these were among the cheapest on the market. Within 6 months we had this issue, it cost an arm and a leg to fix, the truck had some warranty that sure enough was not covered. When I call to verify if this was covered, they said no, they made it sound to me like they get rid of these units when major repairs are bound to happen soon and pass these to dumb guys like me. I've had nothing but problems with our 2014 international maxforce 7.6 It won't regen and clean the dpfs, having to bake them every 8-10 months. Pretty much every mechanic we have talked to have expressed their displeasure and have suggested to get rid of it ASAP, others in my opinion see in me an opportunity to make money and have said they are OK and that they can fix these issues (they haven't). Maybe my truck was built on a Friday, but damn it has been nothing but a pain in the ass. Can anybody please share their experiences with these units? Any comments are welcomed, and I thank you in advance.

this is the legendary DT466?
@fixitjerry2 жыл бұрын
It's the predesseor! But what a junk!
@ronunderwood5771 Жыл бұрын
Actually the MaxxForce DT's are the successor and a pisspoor one at that. Origional DT466 aka "The Legend" dates back to the 60's and was a farm tractor engine. Was tried experimentally in trucks in about 1973. In response to the first round of gasoline shortages coupled with a tripling of price. Became a regular production option in 1975. Evolved over the next 13 years. Went from a rotary AMBAC pump to an inline Bosch, rod and main bearings got beefed up. In 1988, the very beginning of diesel emissions aftercooling was added. The engines from 1988 to 1993 are IMHO flatout the best midrange diesels ever built. Rock solid reliability especially at 210HP. 500,000 mile before overhaul was common. (Cummins 8.3L is close second but never got the market share the DT had) In 1994 the next round of emissions kicked in. This lead to a total redesign. For a year or so it was still mechanical with a big ole P pump. Inside Navistar it was called Next Generation Diesel (NGD) Then it went electronic with the same HEUI injection system as the T444E aka 7.3 DIT Powerstroke. All but about 6 part numbers changes, valve keepers being one of the six! Quickest visual ID is the Legend had V-belts and the NGD is serpantine. This went, with a few changes to 2003. In 2004 another step in emissions. 2004 brought the single EGR cooler, VGT turbo a catylist muffler and another major redesign. But no DPF or regen. Yet. Regen and DPF/DOC happens in 2007 and the MaxxForce name is adopted. Still VGT turbo. In cylinder dosing was used to provide fuel for regen. That caused some problems. As did the Variable Geometry Turbos (VGT) In 2010 there was another emiisions step. Nav tried to meet the newest standard without using DEF. Major mistake. Almost killed the company. Some of you have probably heard of the MaxxForce13L. While the 2010 MF DT's had problems, like the EGR coolers plugging the MF13 issues were horrendus and continuous. Around 2014 or so they put DEF on and renamed them N9 and N10. About the same time they started offering the Cummins ISB as an option. With DEF a lot of EGR problems went away but of course the DEF systems brought their own problems. By that time the MaxxForce name and Navistars reputation was so bad nobody wanted anything to do with the engines. They stopped building the N9 and N10's at the end of 2017. If you have any interest in the debacle look up this phrase; Forbes death by hubris or: Forbes Ustian Navistar

It is clear in your NOX conversion test that your upstream sensor is skewed. Guaranteed this check engine will come back on once the ECM performs a complete SCR check at some point within a drive cycle. You should have replaced that sensor and rerun the test. Don't trust the computer result that says OK. Learn how sensors work by reading graph correlation between inlet and outlet sensors, it is the same technology on gas engines with O2 sensors. I also have 2014 VNL with a D13. Had exactly this same issue, just that I use a Volvo PTT diagnostic system. Mine did not pass. Same type of squibbly on graph. Point of test is that both graph sensors should never deviate from one another. This is why it is called a corellation test.
