How does the data vary when using a multi-species cover crop (8 Summer mix) (6 winter) (all with Legumes, broad & narrow leaf grasses, seeds (corn, Sunflower, barley, millet sorgum, hairy vetch, alfalfa, lablab, etc)

Great question that has a long answer. A quick answer is that it's completely possible to model animal performance from grazing cover crops but once you get into multispecies cover crops especially ones with a large number of species the data gets skewed by grazing behavior. Nonetheless if the list of species grown and their proportion when the mix is known, a predictive model can be created. It may be challenging to get model data on some more exotic plant species. Research on grazing cover crops has shown that as the complexity of species in a mix increases, young cattle performance declines but days grazing increases for beef cows. This means that single species cover crops, mainly small grain cereals, are best for young stock but multispecies cover crops are best for beef cows since the higher forage yield delivered gives more day's grazing for beef cows where pasture quality is not so important. ~ James Byrne

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” - John 3:16 God bless everyone here. Jesus loves you and died for you on the cross. He did this to wash away the burden of sins, and if you open your heart to Him, He can take away the burden of your sins and give you a peace incomparable to anything in this world. ✝✝🙏

This is interesting. I find in Ontario, you can only rest a paddock during the growing season for maximum 4-6 weeks spring and 8 weeks summer, after that the grass plants get too mature
