I use the German bow because I find it has more "unf". Other than the obvious difference on how you hold it you also have to do a bit of what I like to call "dancing with the bass." Play on passage on a french bow and you can stay practically still the whole time. Play it with a German bow and you will find you self twisting and turning the bass as you switch strings. If you watch a video of me in the SYSO you can see that I move around a hell of a lot more than any of the other bass players! XP

@eliseoborrero French is held closer to a violin, cello, or viola bow, while as for the German bow, you put a finger in between the frog. I prefer the French for dexterity, but German is more for volume in my findings.
