Thank you so much. I fell in love with Sandy Denny's voice when I was a young lad and bought the Leige and Leif album. I'm 74 now and still love listening to her beautiful voice. This is the first time I've seen this video of her singing White Dress. I started crying as soon as I saw and heard her sing. Absolutely beautiful.

@emmceeee Well, that "cliffhanger" is VERY disappointing indeed and I still wonder why the rest hasn't surfaced so far - especially as the audio is THERE. Let's keep fingers crossed that one fine day we'll actually see the full-length footage . . . !

@@lazypokerblues I think your clip here survived only because it was *maybe* a pre-recorded insert for promoting the show, or from an end-of-year compilation? I really hope it isn't like the BBC and The Old Grey Whistle Test, about which I was just reading an article regarding Sandy Denny, where Bob Harris says most of its early archive was wiped in 1976: "A couple of chaps with clipboards went in. Some material was rescued." None of Denny's; just the audio. But fingers are crossed!

@@lazypokerblues Well, you've done her the *best* anyone could hope to do. Here's hoping LWT wasn't as bad as the BBC; I've got lots of other LWT stuff that seems to have survived, but mostly from the 80s... Have a great weekend!

@funftyfunf Thanks for asking! The thing is this track is the only one I digitised and uploaded on my channel exactly 4 years ago. So I'd have to dig out that cassette (wherever it might be!) and check if there's anything more worth putting up here . . . I'll try to do that, so yes, there is a chance - but I cannot make any promises . . . we'll see.

@@funftyfunf . . . I just found it, but I now remember why I decided on that one song only - there are just 3 tracks altogether, and "Tattler" was by far the best one. Do I hear Billy Bremner hitting two single-note clams at 00:38 and 00:40? Right after he turns around.
@lazypokerblues20 күн бұрын
@kingcormack8004 When you watch Billy closely during these first bars of "Big Blon' Baby" (and as I explained in my accompanying notes), Billy noticed that his amp wasn't working and as he then gets it running, he checks that it's actually working by picking one, two not very fitting notes.

Thanks for that ❤. Can I ask what the last song was that night?
@lazypokerblues27 күн бұрын
@stuiji The last song of the "official" setlist was "One More Chance". Then she returned for an encore of "Who Knows . . ." and "No More Sad Refrains", after which she left the stage for good - and forever.
@stuiji27 күн бұрын
I've read some folk saying her voice had lost so much by this stage in her life but I don't hear that myself. She always gets inside a song and her singing still takes you somewhere new. I wonder what it was like listening to these songs live or when she was alive? I find them almost unbearably coloured with melancholy all these years after given how immediate and present she comes across in the recordings.
@lazypokerblues27 күн бұрын
@@stuiji Yes, it was commonly noted that Sandy could no longer fully handle certain vocal parts some of the songs demanded. Journalist Karl Dallas had this to say: "That last recording, she was not well. Trevor [Lucas] moved heaven and earth to stop it ever being released (. . .). Actually, in retrospect, she's not singing as badly as I remembered . . . [but] she shouldn't have done that concert." Colin Irwin (another journo) recalled her backstage before the gig being "an absolute nervous wreck, shaking, just marching up and down". And when Linda Thompson saw her after the show, she "just had all these blotches all over her face. She looked fifty. 'Cause she was just hitting it all too hard by then".

A friend of mine met Martin Belmont a couple of times and said he was really arrogant. His playing is pretty ordinary - not anywhere near Dave Edmunds or Billy Bremner whom he effectively replaced as Nick Lowe's guitarist.

@user-s1o3nr532 I'm absolutely with you! He's probably been a splendid drinking buddy of Nick's, but he never was a remarkable guitar player - the more embarrassing the way he was staging himself here.

This song sums up pretty much my life these past few years. I love the people in my life. I love my wife. But goddamn I need a few hours alone each month where no one is judging me, telling me what to do, bringing up past mistakes, and blaming me for everything wrong in their lives. It's really simple. I do love my wife. Jesus Christ though back the fuck off once in a while. Getting two hours alone in a month is a requirement in my life that just isn't met anymore. I always think of this song when I think about these issues. Thanks for posting!
