having now actually played it: okay its good. it does exactly what it aims to do, and it does it quite well. i maintain that the character sheet is almost certainly overwhelming to new players, but im not a new player, so idunno. either way i think it would benefit from moving some of the explanation out of the character sheet, and into an explaining text. i think the main flaw is that it relies on an experienced gm, but i actually think it should be open to be used by a group of beginners, including an inexperienced gm. it would be unfortunate not to take that chance. i do love that it doesnt rely on pages upon pages of character options, and instead lets players come up with those things themselves. considering these players are beginners, id recomend including more in depth explanations on how to do it, and what to look out for. overall, i absolutely agree that you are on to something

Im backin' this! Mainly cause I want Kobold Press to succeed where WotC is failing... I mean, how difficult was it for WotC to provide this stuff for 5E previously? Apparently pretty freakin' hard! Since they never did during this edition... ...in fact, correct me if im wrong, but the last time they provided the mechanical tools to make things yourself was...when they first got D&D with 3e! If only we could crack the code of whats the difference between modern WotC and literally every other company making their own thing? MCG, Paizo, Green Ronin, Kobold Press... what could it be??? . .. ... Its game designers... Every single former designer from WotC's 3.x days either founded one of those other companies, or joined it, rather then stay at WotC... ...that's why we're getting 5E as designed by a Manager (Crawford) who can barely do Maths! Anyway... Sorry for ranting, Mr T! You're videos are great as always!

Yeah, I was thinking this was dangerous to try. Do we want to put out another Monster book BEFORE the 2025 Monster Manual is out? That's Crazy! But they did it and it funded. I am honestly worried about all the Kickstarter/BackerKit companies with all this Tariff Talk. So I am supporting as well as I can. And yes - The Harvesting is needed because we need to counter that WAY TOO EASY magic item construction rule that's in the 2024 DMG.

The Adamantine Dragon’s Unstoppable Breath is similar to the effects of the dragons in MV1. I guess the Dragon is magically collecting or transforming Adamantine for its Needle Breath. Once ready, and until it uses it, it can harness that Adamantine for the ability to ignore opponents armor.

Been some time since I've seen 2 Stat Systems. I personally are more into 3 Stat Systems. I give you it is simple. I like it, it does what it needs to do. Whats the Game Mode you aim for? What kind of adventures do you see your system aiming for? For example, Dungeon Crawls could use something like Traps or a dungeon creator. Or a political game is going to need more granularity for social encounters (Thats Why I prefer 3 Stat ^^). Try to find a place for your system, a USP to use Business Speak. Just being accessible will not be enough. It helps, but I have a dozen One Pager who do exactly what I want in any situation and those are dirt cheap, mostly free. Will you be going for predefined spells, like in DnD? Or more Freeform stuff? Would recommend to just go for Freeform Stuff. I will look into backing you system later this day, it could work quite well for quick gameplay, but alas so does ICRPG :D

Hi, thanks for your interest and you make some good points! I am mainly designing this RPG for myself, and after looking at a ton of micro RPGs I just haven't found anything that suits me. So this is gonna do that. It's gonna teach 5th edition without it being 5th edition in a way.

I like the idea of a strength vs flaw system that balances specific strengths with specific flaws, or more general strengths with general flaws. It would be interesting to see some random tables for suggestions.

Color me intrigued. How much will be Cypher system like? How about adding a "Wild Die", D6 or some type to simulate feats or special abilities in general. Perhaps to increase damage or reduce or soak damage?
@MrTarrasque5 күн бұрын
Good idea actually, but you could very well add that to the skills and flaws. Nothing holds you back to say something like ‘extra damage when sneaking’ to that. The base PDF will go on Drivethru for five bucks.

You and I are in complete agreement and it’s a consistent problem with their starter sets. The cheap card box drives me crazy. They need to take a lesson from Free League Publishing, which in my opinion has the best starter boxes. I’d pay $2 more for a decent box.
@seankreynolds26 күн бұрын
Thanks for the followup review! Some points. 1. Yeah, the box is flimsy. It's not meant for storage-the box set itself isn't even really intended for gamers like us who keep huge bookshelves full of games, it's meant as something you'd give as a gift for a gamer-adjacent friend or relative to try out (or for your group to try out), and if they like it, they move on to the full system. Also, putting it in a sturdier box would cost more, which would bump the cost over its current $29.95 amount, and when it comes to buying stuff there's a big mental jump between "this is less than $30" and "this is more than $30." 2. A PDF of this would be really nice. 3. The adventures definitely are short, they're meant as one-shots. But that's also why the book (page 18) has a link to a free third adventure, which is a followup to Xambit Station. :) (Also, making the GM Book more than 32 page would increase the cost, see point 1.) I really need to do a video about this, its components, and the decisions we made about every piece in it. :)
@MrTarrasque26 күн бұрын
Thanks for jumping in! Like I said, those points I made were in NO way to diss the product, I really love the value it offers; it's just a few things that I personally wanted to address. I would recommend this box to anybody interested in the system, in a heartbeat.
@mohnkern26 күн бұрын
I totally get your concept behind the box, but I still think an extra $2-$3 for a good box would be worth it. I keep a lot of starter boxes around so when new players say “I’m interested in…” I’ve got something I can run quick. For example I have three starter boxes of Blade Runner. One is being used for one group. Another is in queue for a second group and I’ve got a third in the bullpen. I loan out the rule books all the time, and give the adventure and props away to an up and coming GM when I get done running it and they can download the pretend. They also look good on my shelf. I’ve got two Cypher System starter boxes for similar reasons but I pitch the mix when i open it then put all the contents in a filing cabinet. A pain. I think it’s the Numenera box I’ve got as well with the same problem
@mohnkern26 күн бұрын
FYI I’d love to see an old Gods starter box. (I’m running two campaigns and have five , yes five core books so I can loan them to players and tell them not to read stuff)
