Microinverters are sold to suckers. They clip the output of a 430 Watt panel to 290 Watts. If a string inverter has a wide MPPT voltage range like 60 to 480 volts, you can shade panels in the string and not lose the power from the others so long as the unshaded panels produce more than 60 volts. Micro inverters are a waste of $175 per panel. The sales guy loves them as they double the profit. Multi input string inverters are optimal. That's why the Tesla Powerwall 3 has six MPPT inputs. You can have six segments in the array and never have to climb on the roof to replace a failed microinverter.

Looks like Tesla can convert Jake too. Just wondering if that string system has all the flaws PSC evangelised about last year. Micro anyone??

So no Enphase microinverters, 19 panels DC to batteries inverter. DC 600volts through the roof attic space and 600volts DC down inside the wall cavity. No rooftop fires, which is good. 😊😊

people do not understand that the grid itself has a large cost to the customer. That is seen in my 5cents kWh feedin and 50cents kWh supply. But if all your energy comes off your roof and you stop gas heating etc, and petroleum purchases and grid supply electricity usage then the benefits to the customers just gets better. Grid owners are terrified of this. The suggestion that the grid may have to turn off rooftop PV with higher feedin causing grid destabilisation is a worry that customers may not turn the grid back on. Just leave the grid turned off until the customer needs a little more to top off the home battery now and again. As the grid cost itself are fixed, costs will need to be shared with fewer customers. 4million rooftop PV today, EVs being charged from home, v2g Australian Standards are being developed. More and bigger rooftop PV being installed. 10, 13, 17kW systems. People are trading in their old EVs for newer ones. The v2g features will stimulate more trade-ins. Selfplug-in selfparking will add to the v2g. When 20million 6.6kW rooftop PV then the customers will generate 660gWh. This is more than the fossil fueled 600gWh daily maximum possible. Actually, the avg demand is only 400gWh. I bet the grid owners will do a deal with rooftop PV customers and sign up heavy industrial customers moving away from fossil fuels. Same grid, more customers, less central generation, less distant renewables. Customers with an EV parked at home every day will have the v2g EV as a massive home battery backup. Customers who can plug in at work will do the same. Trickle all day long. 23hrs every day. 😊

Guaranteed in the 20-25 year life of your string inverter system you will need to replace it with a new one at least 2x so buying 3 inverters. For Enphase proven reliability is you will maybe replace 2 microinverters so you'll spend n+2 on microinverters.

Hi Jake..We're building an all-electric home in Melbourne's south-east, opted in to use three-phase power. Now I'm doubting if I truly need the 3-phase. We are installing a 10kw solar system and considering putting the Tesla P3 as a battery backup. My concern is that one phase can power all of our electrical appliances, including heat pumps and split systems [23sq single storey home].Thank you!

I'm off grid and it is quite cheap to heat water with excess PV if you understand the technology. I designed a PV diverter to resistive heater that will only take the excess, be it 5W or 1KW, and puts that into heating water. It detects when array voltage exceeds the exceeds expected value and diverts only enough energy to bring that voltage back to Vmp. I didn't install any extra panels and it works fine in parallel with any MPPT charge controller. It costs less than $50US to build. I have a very minimal system and I can make enough hot water that my clothes washer uses hot water for every cycle. Amazing that everyone isn't doing this with units that China could easily produce. Solar people are just too technically challenged to understand this technology.

Looks nice. I also wait with great anticipation for the Enphase IQ 10p battery coming out Q1 2025. Should come at a similar price and enables all the inherent safety and other benefits of micro inverters systems: - Flexibility of panel placement on the roof. Can have different orientations as each micro and panel is independent . Can easily manage different roof levels as AC cabling more flexible. - System can be easily expanded later as you just add more panels with micros underneath. No need to change the whole central inverter. - Is very good managing shading - Safety as AC is low voltage and rapid shut down built in - Longer system life time and warranties compared to string inverters - Resilience. Should one micro fail then rest of system still producing - Module level monitoring and diagnostics - Sunlight backup without grid or battery power as long as there is sun (Enphase IQ8)

Thank you for your master classes. I have two powerwalls 3 in the USA. We have two wires and a neutral coming into our homes. The two wires are 180° out of phase and the neutral is between them. So each phase is 120 V and between the two out of phase wires are at 220 V. Almost all Outlets in our home are 110 V. Special appliances like a dryer electric stove, hot water heater most heat pumps and air conditioning are typically 220 V. The powerwall 3 supplies 220 V with a neutral so it can run the whole house. I have a Sawmill that runs on 220 V single phase 10 hp. Everything is running beautifully with 10K solar input. Very happy with the Powerwall 3

Yes you're right. Your huge battery storage will help it run longer but output will be maximised at 10kW only. On Single phase there is dostributor regulations, so despite the above limitation it will still be best solution as no distributor will approve more than 10kW Inverter capacity on Sngle phase
