It's challenging (and vital) to internalize that Eugenics started as a movement based on compassion and the desire to improve quality of life across the species. It is perhaps even moreso to come to terms with the movement's having started in and taking off in early 20th century America. The exportation of the ideology to Germany and its subsequent adoption by the Third Reich before and during WWII is one of the main factors that led to it falling out of favor in America (temporarily) after decades of strong support. PBS has an excellent documentary about this for free on their channel. Amazing work, I'm continually impressed by the degree of thought and care expressed in this Church's messages.❤

This is such an important message. Convincing yourself that you are right inherently or by definition can lead down some truly dark roads. I was just reminded of Specs Op: The Line, which deals with this line of thinking in its own unforgettable, unique way.

I didnt like church either, but I lived long enough that I got tired of and bored with and done with everything outside the church- then I realized its all empty! So, I went back to church and now I know there are real Christians. They just are in the garden of thorns (tares). If I dont go to church, the hypocrites there at least get to hear what Im missing out on. And the real Christians are lonelier there.

Very theologically rich sermon! Thank you Pastor Joel for this character study on Simon Peter. The historical context was beautifully explained ( Maccabean revolt and the name Simon). And I really liked this theological point on how you connected Satan tempting Jesus on becoming king in wrong way to Peter trying to stop Jesus in tempting to become king (messiah) in wrong way.
