Amsterdam has been a dream destination from childhood. The absence of gadgets has made us deal with boredom by reading and watching TV. In my case, I have always been a fan of travel documentaries and magazines. Then came TLC... I became a fan of Samantha Brown, Andrew Zimmern, and Anthony Bourdain. But a vivid image of a woman dressed in a casual Dutch outfit amidst a vast green scenery, with a beautiful windmill as a backdrop, birthed a dream. This explains why traditional Dutch sightseeing Was my itinerary's priority. For friends who wish to do the same, may this video inspire you and remind you that going to places (even Europe) does not need to be expensive. Being an international traveler will bring you to places even with limited resources. :) Enjoy!!!

It's a pity you missed many places where Rizal and other ilustrados lived and where they passed their free time. You also missed the former Universidad Central de Madrid which is in Calle de San Bernardo. That is where Rizal studied Filisofia y Letras. Despite this, I am so happy for the interest you took to discover Rizal in Madrid.

Hi sir Jaime. True, I did miss a lot, po. I took the chance I had lightly. Actually po, it was only the monument of Rizal that I really planned to visit but as I browsed through the website of the Philippine Embassy in Madrid, I was surprised to know that there were so much to visit in so little time. Unfortunately, we don't have much time to see everything as we were flying back to Manila that same day. Had I known this walking tour would be this interesting, I would have been thorough with the planning. There were so much time lost in looking around, skipping places we would have passed at once but had to go back because of a hastily planned itinerary. But I guess, that leaves me a reason to come back :) to visit the places I missed :) Regardless, thank you for watching po. I hope you liked the video... :)

The hotel was not yet built when they held the banquet for Luna and Hidalgo. The hotel as mentioned was built in 1886 and in 1884, it was Restaurante Ingles. The actual restaurant where the banquet was held is the car park next to the hotel. When Rizal and other ilustrados left the Philippines, they were carrying a Spanish passport. Hence, when they rallied at the Congreso de los Diputados which was then the Spanish Cortes, they were rallying to get representation in the Cortes as the Philippines had lost its representation after King Fernando VII abolished Philippine representation when he returned to Spain after the fall of Napoleon. So, our ilustrados wanted to restore that rights of the Philippines to have representation given to us between 1810 - 1812. Museo de la Reina Sofia was formerly Hospital de San Carlos during the time of Rizal in Madrid and that is where he practiced Medicine. Rizal was inspired to name his first novel Noli Me Tangere after he saw the painting of Correggio with the same title at the Prado Museum. According to the curator, that painting has never been moved from its place. So, if you see it inside the museum, you might probably be standing in the same place where Rizal stood while contemplating on the painting. You should have gone inside Atocha 43 and tried to just go up to the first floor because the stairs is still the same one which our heros used to go the the headquarters of La Solidaridad. You missed Rizal's house in Calle Ventura de la Vega 15 which was called Calle Baño when Rizal lived there. The importance of this place is that it is where Rizal started writing Noli Me Tangere.

Masusing niilinang at pinagningning ang katauhan upang may kumpyansang haharap kanino man.
