comparing mono to braid with fluoro isnt really fair. Mono floats, Braid floats but is stiffer and doesnt absorb water so it keeps tension better, fluoro sinks so it is for a completely different application. Next time you find yourself in a situation where it seems that mono is working better, try putting a mono leader on your braid instead of fluoro just for testing purposes. Personally I find using braid main line and then switching the leader to mono or fluoro based on application is the best for versatility. Even if youre fishing something that needs "Straight mono" or "Straight fluoro" you can just use a pretty long leader and it will act the same.

Watching this--again--after a few years. This is great work, video and teaching. I go on several fly-in trips per summer. Sometimes the very best fishing can be found by spending a day on a bushwhack into a portage lake (well, actually just a few hours since the boats can be primitive). Thanks, guys, and have a great summer on the lake. Can't wait for that first Canadian shore lunch!

If it’s a 3 year old planted fish, it was planted 2 years ago, a 4 year old king would be planted 3 years ago. They are a year old when they are planted.

I do not hate on ffs or live. What I will say though is as a 16 year old who fishes in a kayak on similar programs, when I look up how to catch transitional walleyes and in order to do this program u have to have si and ffs. (I know you don’t need it) but it’s absolutely less motivating

Don’t make excuses buddy. Get out there and figure out the fish and water systems. That reigns over any technology is knowing the body of water. They’re all different and have stand out patterns that thrive. Time of year is a big part of the presentation. Bait weight is key.

If you don’t have side imaging you can buy a cheap down imaging sonar and tilt the transducer about 45 degrees and it works just like side imaging.

@@michaelvann3067 yeah cuz it’s like I don’t have 3 other graphs on my boat. With side and down imagine as well as 2d sonar. Trust me when I say I would definitely know they were there. Can see them plain as day. It’s still up to the fish to bite and the fisherman to put them in the boat. It sounds like you really don’t like fishing anyways. If your idea of fun is to go out on the lake all day and not catch a fish which it sounds like it is, you should probably take up a different hobby anyways. There are days when I get In my boat and troll shoreline structure and weed flats and don’t even turn a graph on and still boat plenty of fish. Plus you can sight fish in shallow water so I guess I’m missing your point……

My new Diawa tatula bail is awful, it so loosely goosey and flips open on me randomly.. Seems to be a good reel other than that but it’s really annoying when it doesn’t flip all the way shut sometimes..

Man, that looks like fun! Those smallmouths are giants! I don't fish much anymore and it's now almost all creeks and a small river. The biggest smallmouth I've caught in the last 3 years was maybe 8 inches long! Lotsa fun to catch though. I've always wanted to do a fishing trip to Minnesota, life just always seems to get in the way.

Its amazing how differently we fish in different parts of the country for the same fish. Here on the west coast, we use flashers and downriggers to get down 150 to as much as 200 feet for kings. I also routinely fish in 50 to 100 feet of water for walleye out here.
