I Must Rest Here a Moment" The battle is over. Or at least, my part in it is. The cold stone at my back is a small mercy, offering support to limbs too weary to hold the weight of this armor any longer. My hands, numb from the frost and the long grip of steel, rest upon the pommel of my sword-its blade driven into the snow at my feet like a grave marker. I do not know how long I have sat here, only that the silence is thick now. No clash of steel, no cries of war. Only the distant whisper of the wind slipping through the ruined archways of this forsaken place. Snow drifts lazily from the heavens, a cruel and indifferent thing, covering the blood and the bodies as though they had never been here at all. Once, I might have risen without question. Once, I might have pushed on, driven by duty, by honor, by something greater than myself. But now… Now, my bones are tired. The weight of my armor feels heavier than it should, as if the years themselves have settled upon my shoulders. My breath, slow and measured, curls in the frigid air, a fleeting thing that vanishes before my eyes. The gate stands before me, its dark iron surface scarred and worn, yet unyielding. Beyond it, the castle still looms against the twilight, distant and waiting. I know what lies within-memories of a life before this one, of voices that no longer call my name, of a purpose that once burned bright but now flickers like a dying ember. I tell myself I will rise again in a moment. That I only need to rest my eyes, to gather my strength. But in truth… I do not know if I will.
