I would like to start collecting fine Italian vintage switchblades soon. I live in Texas and can actually legally carry an auto or switchblade but no way in Hell am I going to carry a $400-$600 classic knife. This video illustrates an enormous wide margin between the $20-$50 knives on the left and then the $400-$600 knives on the right. That's a big gap in between. What's out there that is as decent as possible somewhere in the $100-$200 range?

Do you know where I can find a new lock gate or a spring for one my buddy was cleaning it and it popped out and the spring is bent and it won’t work
@leroiprice158610 күн бұрын
I must first advise you, for safety reasons and also legal purposes, that working on knives especially ones with springs is dangerous, could cause injury, and is not recommended. If it is a cheap knock off a Microtech like the ones shown here the tiny lock gate is a simple steel plate and perhaps a steel "tin can" could provide the raw material. Ask a professional to repair it. But we throw a lot of junk away so a piece of steel must be somewhere in that pile. The springs are tiny and usually have a cone shape. A cut piece from a ball point pen spring might work. It might need some modification. If it is a real Microtech write the company and tell them you we cleaning the knife and ask to send or sell you parts. Couldn't hurt to try. Also many places now make these since the patent ran out. Like Cobratech. I think I saw on ebay or somewhere the main actuating springs for sale. There use to be a bag of various springs for sale for hobby working. Perhaps there could be a workable fit in there but at what cost I don't know. I need to make more videos on how fix these things.

I'd say take it to a knife show or some antique shops to get opinions on what it's worth. Ebay might not allow sale of automatics but many times I have seen them sold there.

@jakeivdbach4665Ай бұрын
Hello 😊 This Brassbowie has a handle from a French fascine knife. Only minor changes have been made to the hand guard. The blade could also have been re-sharpened from such a knife from the 18th/19th century.

That stag couldn't have gone from India because hunting is banned in this country and so is trading, export and import of wildlife parts. These are punishable offences and the rules are very stringent.
@leroiprice15862 ай бұрын
That's right. Many years ago, like around 40 years, it was legal. The Sambar Stag would drop off the antlers yearly and people would gather it up and export it with no harm to the animal. But like anything else when there is a buck to be made I bet there began killing the stag for more profit. And I further would bet that is why India outlawed the export of antlers. But the law is unclear on this whole export restriction.
@22tanmay2 ай бұрын
The Wildlife Protection Act was enforced in India in 1972. Till then, traders with export licence would collect (through a network of agents and people living in forest areas) antlers by shooting deer indiscriminately, posing a threat to their population. Waiting for antlers to fall woiuld have never fed the demand. Bengal tigers, leopards, rhinos and elephants were killed too. The mayhem had to be stopped. Unfortunatley, poaching still takes place here and there. The law has been amended many times, to the extent that Indian citizens can land in jail even for possessing a pre-1972 wildlife part if it has not been declared and registered with the forest department. Any attempt to ship any such item out of india is a crime. Firearms laws are extremely restrictive in India. Only a tiny fraction of this huge population have licenced firearms. Even air rifles of calibers bigger than 177 and having muzzle velocity exceeding 20 joules were banned in 2016. This is the reason American companies such as Marbles and Rough Ryder get their knives with stag handles made in Pakistan where such laws and practically non-existant. Going back to the subject of the video, I collect knives and unfortunately I don't have a Randall yet !

People assume that Chinese automatically means low quality, but that really isn't true, Chinese CAN make pretty good quality, they just usually don't because they are aiming for super low price point
@leroiprice15863 ай бұрын
I agree that there are some great knives from China lately. They started out cheap but some have improved over the years so that they are a good value. When it comes to Italian stiletto knock offs they as yet don't show much quality. That may change. But people who collect old Italian stilettos will only want old Italian stilettos.
@Tommy.4613 ай бұрын
I collect pocket knives but not many case brand. I just don't think they are as quality as some other brands. Some of the older (70s and back) are great knives. You can say that about several brands though. I really like Queen steel designs from the 60s and 70s.

@@leroiprice1586 Leroi, this knife differs from an OTF auto because it has a full tang. I think this is a key point. The blade is not connected to the handle by screws, springs, or other mechanical linkage. The "Raider Creek" avoids the weakness of jointed and other OTF knives for just this reason. Here is something you probably wouldn't want to try with 2 piece knives: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3m4p6B7bsZ_qMU

Russian blades are hella nice. Im particularly fond of Shaska & Kinjal. Being a fencer/instructor in sword & dagger arts has led me to collect many over the years but good reproductions are still hard to find here in the West. So I started making custom reproductions myself. Its good to see that there is someone importing their blades now.

Too soft and too expensive for the steel choices. They use soft 154 or rwl34 and it's a lower grade compared to other options. Not worth those prices. The one in magnacut will be like 61rc and that's too soft for the price too.
