I had always thought the game genie was created in a clean room. Didn't know they worked directly with Sega.

Sega had many more games for the Saturn released only in Japan. My issue back when Super Mario all stars released on the SNES was I had played Mario 1-3 in the USA on my NES so many times that when I tried Super mario all stars I just was not impressed. Now that I'm much older I'd actually like to try to play those games again. For the record I heard about Mario 2 not being the "true" version of Mario 2, but I actually enjoyed it, but I enjoyed Mario 3 more.. I actually purchased an SNES near launch so I played the launch titles and it wasn't until a while later that I played Mario all stars. When I did I rented the game for a weekend and had no interest in until 2024...
@GTV-Japan17 сағат бұрын
I could certainly see that. I have to think part of it was meant for kids without an NES and to keep selling years down the road

I honestly wish Nintendo did this treatment to all the NES heavy hitters of theirs. Imagine a 16-bit update for Zelda 1 and Zelda 2;; could remove the frustrations in Zelda 2 especially, like the pits/water/lava being instant death. Could just make 'em work like pits and such in later Zelda games starting with a Link to the Past, by just making them take a portion of your health and putting you back at the entrance. Plus other things to make the experience nicer, like not starting you at the starting palace every time you run out of lives; don't even have lives, lol.

The spiny shell is the MOST HATED, unfair, disruptive and friendship-destroying item EVER in the history of videogames. In MK64, you could actually become nearly invulnerable if you obtained a spiny shell and scaled up in positions to the first place by keeping it behind you instead of releasing if, it would keep you from getting hit by any other item from behind, rendering you essentially invincible. Also if you released the spiny shell while in first place, it would come back to hit... You... Since the spiny shell was programmed to hit the first place regardless of who is it (even if it is the launcher). This was corrected in future iterations of the game.

@@GTV-Japanthank you brother, i lived it and remember it like yesterday. I wish more people knew sega had 64% market share in 1994 which is insane since gb nes snes vb etc combined sold more than 150+ mil units (according 2024 info), which meant somehow genesis game gear master system segacd 32x wity only 100 mil units + arcade STILL sold more 🤔 games 🌎 . (Obviously it had 64% market share) On internet it goes nes snes ps1 ps2, but that inst how history really was. It was atari nes genesis then snes but by time snes won 16 bit was over and ps1 blew up
@GTV-JapanКүн бұрын
@rustymixer2886 I’ve never heard the 64 number but I believe it. I’ve heard 61 in 92 and 57 in 94 but I guess there’s different ways to get results. A lot of people ask me to make a video about Sony asking over but I always say I don’t need to I can sum it up in one sentence. Sony wanted it more, and had billions to do so. Finished!
@rustymixer2886Күн бұрын
@GTV-Japan yes info says 51 to 64% market share sega, which is crazy in the now "snes internet revisionist history" which I call it, but sega ruled then but thier japan vs usa civil war (saturn vs 32x, eternal champion vs virtua fighter, cd vs cart) and sony ps1 crushed them in 1995 to ♾️ Edit : "compiled by TRSTS (december 1994 after dkc), suggesting a 55% hardware share for Sega versus 45% for Nintendo, and a 53% versus 47% software share[28]."
@GTV-JapanКүн бұрын
@rustymixer2886 there is a lot of revisionist history for sure. I like Nintendo games but man it’s like beyond a cult for some people and they can’t ever accept that some people just went with something else

Your video really makes not being the top seller for 2 years sound horrendous. I never remember a time that had more Sega Households than Nintendo even if many Nintendo Households did not go SNES until 93 or 94. Not everyone had the money. I think a lot of Sega homes where ones that never got a NES and just saw Genesis as one of the current options and one that cost a little less. I also think it being the bargain is why 32x and the CD addon did not sell. Your market is the budget market so what are you thinking adding more cost.

well, just using the term sega household and intendo household was just kind of an injoke to a certain group of fans on the internet.

I always like your history videos, but I have to confess that it's funny to me when people try to paint Sega as the "cool, grown-up" system when their mascot was a funny blue cartoon rodent. Sure, Sega's advertising had more of that corporate-approved, focus group-tested "attitude" that sold well to Gen Xers who considered themselves rebellious because the TV told them that they were, but Nintendo's commercials in retrospect were far more creative. Sega (in America at least) was too preoccupied with appealing to normies. I'd also dispute that Nintendo lacked more mature games given the darker atmosphere of titles like Super Metroid and RPGs like Earthbound Would the "Play it Loud" campaign have existed without Sega? Probably not. Would "Donkey Kong Country?" Probably. The hardware war and the eagerness to be "next gen" all but guaranteed it. Granted, the marketing would have been different.
