The problem with this is that Gun Control legislation accomplishes nothing to reduce the rate of violent crime. The reason why is because while these laws limit the ability of law abiding citizens to protect themselves against dangerous and highly violent criminals, it does nothing to prevent criminals from breaking the law. No matter how super-mega-illegal you make gun possession, criminals will still posses firearms and will still use firearms to commit crimes, so legislation is not the answer. The correct answer to this problem entails 1. prosecuting those whom commit violent crimes, 2. eliminating all parole, 3. Requiring 100% of a prison sentence be served in all cases (e.g. 10 years in prison means exactly 10 years in prison.) 3. requiring drug addicts and drug dealers to register in a state public registry, as well as creating laws for mandatory and indefinite involuntary commitment to a treatment program after imprisonment for drug-related crimes, while requiring drug offenders not be released on bail under any circumstances 4. employ mandatory minimum prison sentences for violent crimes. 6. mandate prosecutors to prosecute (e.g. remove all access to plea agreements, lesser included offenses, etc. in violent crime cases). 5. Employ a mandatory death penalty in all firearms-related homicides, and require the execution to actually take place within three years. 6. Require all death penalty executions to take place in open public.
