Ah... Getting stuck in Sheffield station is always 'fun, espically trying to get to Manchester. I remember one time where all the trains going up the Hope Valley line were cancelled and it was causing utter chaos! Ended up going to Huddersfield via the Penistone line and catching a train back to Manchester from Huddersfield. Long but quite sceanic route back, shame a tunnel was shut in the 70's though.

@@TrainRealWorldBut, as a different member of @TrainspottingTrio , the stations were built in the 1800s, and as an example, Radcliffe(Notts), was built in 1850, and since then has had its goods yard and third Platform removed, but they were never designed for the 2004 admission of Meridians on the network to for future possibilities to stop them at these small village stations, and for the HSTs, it was at their admission time that they were taking down the footbridge at Radcliffe as we already had a road bridge with footpath access at the station. This occurred in 1977. And since the Platforms have been overgrown with foliage beyond the car stop signs and now Platform 2, as an example, has got 20, lost, metres of Platform.
@TrainspottingTrio25 күн бұрын
@@peterskegness3204 And yes, no way would Meridians be able to use their power and design intentions to get round Netherfield Junction, over the Trent, round Radcliffe's numerous bends, etc. efficiently, and the Midland Mainline most obviously needed them.

Putting it bluntly, it's a 💩hole. First thing you see arriving by train is the overgrown ends of the platforms - seen disused ones tidier. Forget Vegas, Skegmess is a much more appropriate name. @@garymcgregor7048 Yes, certainly was better in the 70's and 80's. The rot set in around the early 90's, and it's been going downhill ever since. There's a good reason Skegmess wins the award for Worst Resort annually! Amusingly, the town is twinned with Bad Gandersheim in Germany (means nothing to all to anyone, but a few Councillors who use it for a free Jolly to Germany at Council Tax Payers expense). Although its two "Bad" towns twinned, in reality it would more appropriately be paired with Jaywick.

Glasgow is so well served for trains, it's just a shame with any new development there's not the same need to create a station. Pollokshields West was my train stop getting back from school as it was about 2 mins walk to home. I'm that old, in my 50s, that I remember the old ticket stations, the station master, and at that point it was the old fashioned tickets too.
