On 15 September 1990, "Battle of Britain Day" on the 50th anniversary, I attended an airshow on the cliffs of Folkstone. The climax was a simulated dogfight overhead between a Spitfire, a Hurricane, and two Hispanos (Merlin-powered Bf 109s) while this very theme played over the loudspeakers. The large crowd was reverently quiet while the music played and the aircraft maneuvered overhead, which ended with the two "Messerschmitts" flying away toward France, trailing smoke. The scene ended with enormous applause, and I was glad I had made the trip across the Atlantic to see it.

This film makes me bawl. It was especially poigiant for me to watch this scene when I was younger and look to my dad, to see he was crying. I think my dad's always seen himself in Doc Holiday. From that day on I understood him a little better, and tear up every time I watch this scene.

A musical composition of absolute genius and talent. As an ex-music teacher, I used this theme to teach both the origins sought from histrocial German marching tunes from WW2 plus the layering of musical composition. At the time, my students hadn't even watched the film, let alone heard this theme. Ron Goodwin was a compositional titan of his time.

Imagine you see civilians in plain clothing… and You think ur punky Brewster.. coming to join the muskateers.. accidently pucking a fight with the muskateers.. that now see you like the one eyed black jack trying to take over.. so you have duels with everyone at 12 , 1, and 2 believing that When you Actually do fight each one.. you will win and still fight the next two.. then they all show up for the dual saying ur the jerk who everyones talking about.. and you might feel sheepish.. Now picture…. Ur looking at these very different looking men all the same way.. likw triplets that Think they look dofferently and I should be able to tell them from the bad guys…. So in a moment of clarity.. you tell Sister mary Margret shes singing too loud and Porthos feels hes not being herd.. while aramiss’ whos catholic might be reigning on High pitch too high .. so we need to bring that down and octive.. and Get Sister mary clariance .. to Chamge beats and emcorprate Some middle eastern flavor.. to where voices are heard indovidually like trumpets or strings.. but one isnt trying to doninate the whole sound.. and maybe in playing around and Trying to help each group to see an area of improvement for pitch tone and sound…. It came off a bit like Bossy pants.. but she kinda thought the three muskateers also were a bit bossy.. so felt like they might be saying ahes like them…. And maybe She took off her hat and her hair fell down and The guy from pitch perfect with mad beat box Says from the table “not a dude” And porthose says “ dart’an’yawn” is a chick’hen…. Who sword fights against Cock’adoodles .. and we all love happily ever after. Realizing that to Dartanyawn .. he was a hero in his eyes.. and maybe dressing in plain clothing.. gets confusing for “teams” .. specially when porthos has such a great sense of humor and Can clearly see how entertaining that might be inno’cents.. but also that They might be a pregistoric villian who draws pictures in caves and maybe didnt think that would make her the ghost in the hood…. Cloaked in failure/Disaster.. blood… guts .. and maybe We Decide to being out various shades and hues.. to Develop her voice.. so that The good parts come our like maria from Sister act two.. And She finds frankay (eminem) and Sketch (Will smith) And Gets them to Rap.. and see their sounds are awesome apart.. but layeredbrings out the Deeper meaning and tone.. witch is Y .. The guards in Monty python where the Tune’ic with a Y on it….

Traditional American lullaby. Hush a bye, don’t you cry, Go to sleepy, little baby. when you wake, You shall have, all the pretty little horses. The ironies with Cora's story abound. Then Poledouris turns it into a paean when Cora confronts the dingos and her past head on.

I have always loved this movie and the superb music and acting. It failed as a film because it was released just as the USSR was dissolved. It was a film out of its time. Now 35 years later, it is much easier to see the enduring themes about love and of Russia.
