I have been a loyal MEC customer since I was a teenager, and I'm 43 now. Over the last 3-4 years I've notice a severe decline in the quality of MEC branded products, while the prices remain the same. Every single thing I bought this year with an MEC label is broken, de-laminating or the seams have come apart. Last month I bought 2 lights for my bike. The first one broke after one ride, and the replacement a week later - which tells me there's a quality problem that MEC must be aware of, but they no longer care enough about their customers, to pull it. I am going to my local MEC for the final time to return my light. Good bye old friend. You've changed.

I just noticed that Mec is no longer Co-op and now called Mountain Equipment Company? 😮 😂 I've been living under a rock🪨

Will the water bottle freeze halfway through the night and then make your bag freezing? Im a newbie to this so just curious.
@danielhlw2 ай бұрын
No, it will be at “room temperature” if you keep it inside your sleeping bag in the morning after all heat has been absorbed by your body. This hack (in my experience) lasts about 4 hours and then you can wake up and heat another bottle if you really are struggling with the cold. I recommend buying hot hands “hand warmers” and putting two inside your bags of your second/third layer to keep your chest and hands warm at night as well as one in the back of your neck not directly touching your skin. This could be overkill depending on your sleeping bag or really help you pass a warm night on a not so good sleeping bag. You can also put these hand warmers inside of your socks to keep your toes warm. Warm bottle in between your legs, hand warmers inside your layers, and you are good to go to be “comfortable” around -0c. Proper sleeping pad is also essential. Cheers!

I'm amused by the part at 1:29 where they show someone loading solid metal weights (barbell weights) into a dry bag and say "Just to see what would break first". The bag. The bag will break first, obviously! The weights are solid metal, FFS!

Turning to the fashion crowd. Poor in-house designs. A shift from value branded in-house stuff to the same commercial brands everyone else has. Becoming a normal for profit store. Extreme irrational wokeism. This is why mec went from the darling of Canadian outdoors to a struggling to survive operation. I used to drive hundreds of km’s to a mec, and send everyone I know there. Now I tend to avoid it even living in a city with one. This kind of low-info juvenile video is a good representation of what they’ve become.
