"bitcoin derives its value from proof of work: the energy and effort expended to create and secure it" is probably the most pervasive misunderstanding in crypto bitcoin gets it's value from the trust people place in it. proof of work is merely a trust producing mechanism

@@WorkSaveBitcoin "something that has so much energy backing it is inherently valuable" - this is the fundamental misunderstanding. it's subtle, so I get why people miss it. but I'll try to make it as clear as possible. the fact that proof of work requires energy is secondary to the fact that the miner paid some cost. what matters is that participants can verify a cost paid; that’s what builds trust. the trust mechanism works via a proof of costliness: if you can prove you've paid a cost, and everyone can verify the cost you've paid, then everyone can assume you are trustworthy. it actually doesn't really matter what form the cost comes in. it could be anything. the reason energy is used in bitcoin's case is because satoshi figured out that if someone finds a specific magic number for any given block, the only way they could do it is via guessing and checking, thus expending energy, thus incurring a cost. the energy used in mining is only relevant in that people can be confident that the miner incurred a cost to find the magic number. it's the cost they were willing to incur that makes them trustworthy, not the energy they spent. and it's the trust people are willing to put into the system as a whole that makes bitcoin valuable. the bitcoiner obsession with the energy used, and their belief that it is somehow connected to bitcoins inherent value, is why they were wrong about proof of stake. both proof of work and proof of stake create trustworthy blockchains because what builds trust is that participants can verify that a cost has been paid.

Ok, you read all the btc specs very well, and I personally acknowledge that BTC is far superior to fiat, but all I have right now is a bunch of bitcoin and barely any EUR (the current standard here in europe) just enough to live well and I don't even work for anyone besides myself at least. Based on previous cycles I know there will be a new bear market, unless "this time it's different". I know this, because the price has been rallying, and there's nothing out there that doesn't crash after a rally of such exaggerated overleveraged dimensions. Considering these bear markets often reduce the EUR/USD to BTC price to around 80%, and my country would charge me 21% tax for fiat gains, It's very much worth it to even sell ALL of my BTC for EUR, and patiently wait to buy even more BTC back lower. I can likely even do this in just one year's time, ending up with even more BTC. Or, I wait an entirely new 4 year cycle, watching how I could have gained even more BTC if I'd speculated this low effort way. Already did this last cycle and it turned out quite well (with less money at stake)
@WorkSaveBitcoin6 күн бұрын
@@DylanCalaf Cycles will not always be a thing. Once we reach mass adoption, there will not be these big movements and cycles. You need to have a longer time horizon. You shouldn’t stretch yourself so thin where you don’t have enough fiat to live off of, but if you truly believe in Bitcoins fundamentals the goal should be to hodl and look into the future for your future generations, this is not just a couple years type of investment. If you’re selling for fiat you either don’t understand what you’re selling or giving in to fear.

Apples and oranges. --- GOLD: --- Physical properties: - Malleability. - Ductility. - Resistance to corrosion and most other chemical reactions. - Electrically conductive. These are properties essential for tech industries, but gold isn't the only material that has these properties. Advantages: - Scarce (currently) Drawbacks: - Can always be stolen. - In large quantities consumes maintainance costs. - Can be faked. - There's more of it underground and out in space which if found will reduce it's scarcity. - Hard to carry around, transport and trade. --- BITCOIN: --- Physical properties: - P2P Distributed Advantages: - Limited existences. Anti inflatory. - Decentralized. - Weightless. - Globally transferrable in a matter of minutes. - Very accessible (you can easily trade it online). - Programmable.
